It's like asking how long is piece of string. How long is there between the time your flight lands and the one for Rome takes off?

    About 3 hours

Going to be tight so. Don't forget you need to go through baggage reclaim, pick up your baggage and check in again. Takes around 30 minutes or more for that in Stansted. I'd say a delay of around an hour or so and you could be well screwed.

Yea Rome is good, what exactly are you looking for from it?. Plenty of sights to see, nice food etc, crazy drivers, quiet expensive for accomadation, food drink, taxis etc, like any capital city

Having done the double flight thing this time last year (shannon->stansted->milan & return), it all ran smoothly but i left under the impression that it could potentiallly go wrong.

Questions you have to ask yourself:

    1. How important is t his trip to you?

    2. How much time do you have to invest in the flights/transfer of flights

My experience wih waiting a couple of hours at stansted worked out fine this time last year. But there is no reason why it can't all go pear shaped - you have to approach it on that basis. Ryanair are not setup for connecting flights. If you get caught out, your suckered and it should be no-ones fault but your own.

Bottom line......there are no guarantees with discount airlines....

I've only ever flown Ryanair once and the flight was pretty punctual. Using Ryanair to get to a connecting flight is very risky. If they are delayed and you end up missing your connection, you're basically screwed! Ryanair are not exactly known for their customer service skills!!

Did the same trip 2 weeks ago, but via Charleroi. Much easier airport to get around than Stansted because it's fuppin tiny.

And it meant a night in Charleroi with Belgian beers as opposed to a night in Stansted.

Rome is excellent btw. Very easily walked. I was interested primarily in old Rome as opposed to religious Rome, so:

Go to the Collesseum, (€10) hang around for an english speaking guide tour and join em. Then use the same ticket to go up Palatine hill which gives you a good view of the Circus (just a dipped field now) but more importantly give an excellent view of the Forum (free) so you can work out what's what before going into it.

Castle Angelo, Hadrians former Mauseleum (sp?) and fortress of Popes, is worth the €5 and an hour or two, especially in the evening as you get a good view of the city from the roof.

Spainish steps - are just aload of steps. Trevi fountain is breathtaking. St Peters is impressive - didn't go in as I was wearing shorts, and they won't let you!

Top tip though is for eating and drinking, step of the tourist trail a few hundred yards to half the price you pay for food'n'beer
