I've got really pale skin so I want v light translucent dewy (dewey? ) type finish from foundation but all the ones I've tried are very heavy and leave me with a distinct orange tinge! Any suggestions?

my g/f is also very pale (must be an irish thing) and she swears by mac products. you can get them in brown thomas on grafton st. in dublin, and the girls in there will try a few things out with you and make recomendations on the results.

Another good one is Nivea Visage, the tinted moisturising creme..
Its good if you want a little tint on your face and it looks more natural too!
    plus its cheap :D

MAC is brilliant, they have lots of different shades, and the girls are really helpful. I swear by the stuff!!

Actually, you should have a look at BeneFit stuff as well. Its excellent, and might be better if you're looking for something more lightweight. They have it in Arnotts, probs in BTs also.

I will be yet another to recommend MAC. On the rare occasions I wear foundation, it's what I use. Also, Star Gazer is quite good as well, although it's hard to find, especially in any shade other than pure white, and I doubt anyone is naturally that pale..

I've got pale skin too and I swear by L'oreal products. I think in porcelein but I could be wrong on that. anyways, the lightest colour leaves no type of orange/brown tinge what so ever and they have a couple of different types to suit different skin types too.

try "prescriptives" brown thomas, good range, best Ive found. Lots of people recommend mac, must give it a go myself.
vichy used to do a range called luminesce, porcelain was one of the lightest colours they did- very nice.

I find MAC a little too "I put this on in the dark!" for my liking; it streaks quite badly on me and generally is far too orange toned to look good on me. I avoid Clinique too. Try Bobbi Brown in Brown Thomas, the foundations are wonderful.

No matter where you try the foundation, bring a hand mirror and step outside and check the sample application before you buy. The lighting in most department stores is far too harsh - see what it looks like in natural light before you end up paying for it!

Well the mac collection is quite good, slightly over priced tho, check out clinique too, they're fairly good for catering for different skin types, i use it a good bit and find it a lot lighter than macs foundation-less spots hurrah.

stila (available in bt) or smashbox (ridiculously expensive and you can only get it in the airport) are the best i'd say. although i'd regularly use mac meself
