    Hi

I am about to format my hard drive and was thinking of partitioning it. One for the operating system and the other for all other data that will be installed on the computer. My friend told me that this works well incase you need to reinstall the operating system for any reason. Is this a good idea and if so hou many GB's of space should I give to the operating system partition.

    regards
    John.

I have about 6 or 7 for Windows XP on my C drive, I have 10GB for longhorn on my L drive, but im getting rid of that this week to make more room for music.

Id say throw 7 or 8G Bin there. Some things install into the windows system and can take up space, so having extra is always useful. Just remember when installing items to install them into the other drive and not onto the operating system drive :)

If you're using XP then a decent size would be recommended, especially if you have a decent chunk of RAM. Between them (by default) hiberfile.sys and pagefile.sys will take up 3.5 times the size of your RAM.

I think Ill go with 10 Gigs just to be on the safe side. Cant you edit the registry so that program files and Documents and settings are on the other partition.

I am after formatting the drive into two partitions a 8.4 Gb one for windows and a 105Gb one. I want the program files forlder and the documents and settings folder to be on the non windows partition. Is there a piece of software that will set this up for me or do I have to change all the registry settings by myself. If so what settings do I have to change.

    thanks
    John.
