Capturing in to Pinnacle Studio - Sound & Video not sync-ing

    Hi All,

I read through your posts about editing software & based on your opinions decided to download myself a copy of Pinnacle Studio 9 - it sure is intuitive.

I cannot see the camcorder (Sony DCR-Pc105E) when I use a firewire cable, but can capture through USB streaming. Do you guys know if there is any advantages/disadvantages to Firewire over USB? which is better?

I have a problem when capturing - the sound & video does not sync up. The video appears to be playing to fast.

An idea what may be causing this? (the original video on tape is fine)

I reckon its something I'm doing wrong in my capture.

    Cheers

USB doesn't have a high enough transfer rate for capturing video at full quality (unless cameras now utilise USB2, i'm not sure that they do). The camera should be recognised over the FireWire, try uninstalling and reinstalling any drivers you got with either the firewire card or the camera itself. Does the firewire card show up in your device manager?

    Question?

    IEEE 1394 = Firewire = I.LINK ? -- These are all the same

IEEE 1394 - OHCI Compliant, all looks good in Device Manager.

    All the same thing.

All I can suggest is uninstalling everything and reinstalling. My copy of Pinnacle has an option in the capture settings for selecting FireWire or USB, and it defaults to firewire if it's available. I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't be picking it up.

When you plug the camcorder in, does Windows make a *bing* and display a camcorder in the system tray? If you're runnign XP, can you capture via FireWire with Windows MovieMaker? If using another OS, can you capture with DVApp?

What error messages do you get - camera not found, hard disk transfer rate too slow?
Are you capturing directly through the firewire port of your motherboard (if so, which model) or a dedicated PCI capture card?

    :D Hello.

I have a JVC GRDV-167 MiniDV camcorder which I use in conjuction with S9.
From talking to other users, your problem could be with the Camcorder itself.
I have seen a situation where S9 would not recognise the connected Camcorder, and it turned out to be a firewire out problem with the camcorder itself.

I have connected several differing models to S9 (including Digital 8). It recognises all of them. Why not get a loan of another machine to try?
Tip: don't connect the firewire when the machines are turned on. Many say it's OK to do this - but I would advise against it.

Lastly, the audio/video synch problem in S9 is caused by a bug, which can be overcome by downloading the latest patch from www.pinnaclesys.com This will resolve it for you.

Hope you have broadband (or know someone who has!) - it's 27Mb in size.
