    Hi,
    I've a friend buying a notebook and I've recommended Jes-computer.

From doing a bit of research they seem to be the best value for money.
The model I was looking at was the Amilo M1420b P4-M 1.6 /60GB /DVD+RW (Product AID: 17884 FSC) Price: 1,399.00 EUR

Just a few thoughts came to mind when buying from a german company.

Will the power pack be ok here in Ireland? I'm presuming I'll have to buy a plug adapter and thats all.

Will the keyboard layout be different from the standard? (i.e. german)

Will all the documents that come with it be in german?

Who delivers and how long would it take? I've tried to figure out how much it would cost for delivery, but its all in German.... :(

Is there any other issues I should think about before I go and buy this for him?

I was going to email Jes but I said I'd try and get some answers on Boards.ie first coz everyone is usually so helpful :)

If anyone knows of anywhere I'd find a similar spec'd machine @ the same price, please let me know.
Any further thoughts from anyone would be great too...

    Thanks
    ambrose

from looking at other posts in the past (where a jes employee posted) i believe

keyboards & documents & windows in german
delivery price can be seen if you go thru the ordering process but don't actually order
    GLS delivery
power adapter i presume german style, so ud need a small plug adapter

u can change keyboard layout (but remem the physical keys will be european positions... but u could try to change them manually or little stickers or something! :)
aparently you can install an english version of xp home with the german code number that is given with the laptop cd.

it may well be worth the hassle if you have the confidence and patience...
    gud luck

oh and another useful piece of info i found out the other day is that xp pro has options to use different language settings (including different language menu bar etc...) in a pack aptly called Windows XP Multilingual User Interface Pack while xp home doesn't.

Got a keyboard off JES, german layout, this means Z and Y are reversed.
Big problem is the symbols, My brother who is an editor, as in he types all day had a lot of trouble recently when he tried to use it, it don't bother me as I know where all the symbols go. You should make sure your friend knows this as it might be a lot of hassel changing it.

OS will be in german as the JES dude posted on boards a while back, as will all the software, if you think you can get hold of an XP CD (microsoft might send one if you give your product code, you might ask them first) you should be fine for that, but other software might be hassel.

GLS are bad people, I had to collect my stuff last time, and there was a guy there doing the same, they are hopless, but if you can get to Blanchardstown you should be cool.

    And good luck again!

Was looking into this last night, the Multilingual pack for english is hard to get hold of, I believe it's a corperate pack and costs a fortune, so unless you know someone with this pack it might not be an option.

If I have any joy with it I will post here to say so.

    Oops think I found it

Have not tried it could be wrong, but it looks good.
