48-bit LBA support? Tried slipstreaming SP3 or SP4 into your installation CD?

You build up a personalised version on Windows on your local machine (including special drivers if you need them) and burn out a new CD..
Very handy, if like me, you manage multiple machines with identical specs.

yeah ive used nlite before to slipstream and to add drivers onto the windows cd.
ive never patched a windows machine before for this extra big hard disk thing, are there any links to patches lying around from microsoft? or anyone else for that matter

If the MS support page above is correct then it looks like the only way to do it is to have SP3 or SP4 for Win2000. I guess if you are installing onto the 160Gig you'd probably need a Win2000 with the SP slipstreamed into it from the start. But if it is being installed as a non system hard disk ie. for storage rather than running Windows then it would do to install the Sp onto an existing install.

ah just saw its new in the latest version. Not the most flexible method though. you have to be able to input the actual inf files.

i wanna install onto the 160gig when i get it, but i wanna make sure windows knows exactly whats going on with the disk before hand.
does windows xp need that patch to be installed?
does service pack 4 or 3 sort out that problem if i slipstream it?

Slipsteaming doesn't sort the problem. I've slipstreamed sp4 on my cd. The support is there for 48bit, but it's not enabled by default. Muppets (ms).

To get around it, I did an empty install, turned on support, then ghosted it.

There must be some way of turning it on in the sliipstreamed Win2k disc. What Khannie says makes sense but you need a second <137gig hard drive and some sort of imaging software. Will have to look this up in more detail. Xp should be ok from SP1 version on. Couldn't say with certainty if the original Xp release has 48bit lba support.
