I just thought I'd let you know how I faired on Friday night which was my first taste of a Casino\Card Room. To be honest I had a taste of everything on Friday....

I have to admit to being a bit intimidated walking into the Fitz as a Newbie.... first time and all that. However, once I was introduced to all the lads playing the SnG that I was late for (sorry lads!) I felt much more at ease. Especially when Brendan (one of the dealers) offered me a seat at the table to observe and DeVore and Juan Pablo introduced themselves to me. As I was late for the game I started chatting with Juan Pablo who gave me a complete run down of how things work in the Fitz, the different types of games, the rules and even some of the odds in regard to the hands DeVore was picking up in the SnG. DeVore and another two guys where playing a tight game in the first SnG towards the money end of things so the lads decided to start another SnG... and it was time to get my fingers dirty.

We sat down to the second SnG and what a start... For the second hand I was dealt 2, 9 off suit so decided to chuck them out of turn even though I was big blind and had the possibility to see a flop. Well the lads where sound and let me see the flop anyway and gave me a few tips as well.. but I almost died when I did that and I think I may have partially soiled myself as well :).

After that I got a cup of tea as I obviously wasn't as calm as I thought... Pocket K's soon put me at ease and I slow played them calling Juan Pablo's bet to see the flop 8, 7, 8. I called Juan Pablo's bet and the turn was an 8. Juan Pablo goes all in after the rag river card and I think sh1t what have I done I should have raised (I think he has the 8), I call and Juan Pablo has a 7 phew! I'm still in...

I think after that I was bought out of a few hands.. but was happy to be still in. After that I played tight and with tips from Juan Pablo Managed to get heads up with Dirkey_Wynne which was a great experience... to be honest I was dealt great cards.. pocket K's, 10's, Q's you name it I got it... Dirkey went all in for about 3k and I called (after the ;lads telling me to think of the value) with 9,7. I won by hitting a nine and Dirkey didn't hit anything to match his K, 10 (I think it was). Wow, 50 sheets up on my first visit.. and I'm chuffed...

We decided to stay on for another 10 euro SnG and I paid Juan Pablo 300 to see a flop which was no good for me.. Phew, he had pocket J's... After a few hands I make a few bad calls and have about 600 left in chips. Two guys to my left go all in and I call with A, 2 off suit. The two guys both had Q,10 (one had them suited). The flop comes A, Rag, 2.... oh what a a beautiful game... I counting my winnings and can't believe it... I shouldn't have believed two of the flop cards where spades to match the guys Q, 10 and so was the river and I;m out on my first bad beat...

That's it what a night a lucky win a bad beat.. and I'm hooked. All that for 20 quid. My advice if your thinking of going for the first time to the Fitz.. is get down there before you miss out on the fun...

Thanks to Brendan, DeVore, Dirkey_Wynne and the other lads at the table and especially Juan Pablo for all the tips...

    See you at the Fitz...

Well done Eddie, you have no problem holding your own! Glad you enjoyed yourself, the first visit can often be a daunting one. Methinks we will see you again soon.

LOL.. I did the same thing on my first visit to The Fitzwilliam. Was the big blind, and tried to fold 2,4, with no raises in to me. Of course the flop comes A35, to give me a straight... :o

No problem mate, good to see new players coming in. None of us are old hands you know! If JP wants you to play a "version of Hold'em with 4 cards" just say no :)

My advice would be to not be taken in by that Juan Pablo chap. He's a filthy gringo and no good can come of him.
