Fedora 2 ISO's

I downloaded cd ISO's 1 through 4 for fedora 2 last night and am in the process of writing them to cd's. They are all marked at the 600+ mark and yet burning takes up only about 3 cm from the centre of the disc and takes abotu 2 minutes which leads to believe they are not all on there.

When i open the cd to explore it in XP however it shows all the files as there and also give me a size on disc value of 600+ megs.

Anyone else ever heard of this?

Also on another note, how do i install once i've burned them all. Want to dual boot with XP. without, note, without, losing anything i have on the pc already. Is this possible?

You could try check the md5 checksum, not sure how to do this tho.
It sounds as if they're not being burned properly.

As far as install goes just reboot and make sure that your pc is set to boot off the cd first. then just be carefull when it comes to partitioning, iirc everything is outlined in the install.

After a quick google I found this. I've never used it and can't say anything about it.
I normally get my isos from bittorrent which normally guarantees good downlaoads.

What are you using to burn the isos just as a matter of interest.

UltraISO is what i'm using. First thing i came across that burns ISO's. Might try something else.
Sounds easy enough to install. Should i try it on a machine i don't care about first or is it fairly easily done?

Nero says that there is a problem with the images and it reads them as only 130 mb instead of 640 odd. So obviously there's an issue. Something about incorrect block size.

It looks like i'll need to download the files again. Know a good source by any chance? Anyone know of any issues with firefox downloader not liking very large files? I try to download the DVD image which is advertised at 4.1gb on the site but when downloading firefox says its 73mb and only downloads 73mb. The fedora site there may be issues, thought firefox wouldn't be a prob tho...

    ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/2/i386/iso/

is a local place to get them, but I'd say the redhat download page, if it is anyway smart will have handed you the iso's from this mirror anyway ... if you don't trust firefox just use command line ftp or (dare I say it) internet explorer!

Use the url that rob1891 mentioned in the last message. To check the integrity of the files download the md5 checksum files too and compare these to the iso images (there's a program that does it I can't remember the name off the top of my head). I downloaded them from the Heanet mirror and burned them using Nero without any bother.

    Cheers
    Rory

edit: goto http://md5summer.org and use the program here to check the ISO files.

haha, I was going to say wget or curl, but if nero is being used to burn the machine is windows and if firefox isn't working, I'd go straight to IE, not going to dick around work out what is wrong. Sorry it's about getting it done not what colour browser you used.

(and you should be downloading FreeBSD anyway, lunix is poo, and Mac's are better than all of you poor people (and your computers too), come on, I'll take you all on!!!)

    ;)

I'm sorry if this makes anyone sick. Not too great with ftp - never really had a need.
Any tips on where to start? I just typed ftp into google and got Smart FTP will this do?

btw, I downloaded them from heanet. i agree heatnet normally gives no problems.

And i removed IE from the yoke after i installed firefox because it annoyed me. So i'll try to avoid using IE as much as poss.

EDIT: SmartFTP seems to be working nicely for me. (well, its downloading anyways) Thanks folks, no doubt i'll come up against more problems - but hey, isn't that what computing is all about??
