Online K700 firmware update goes live

    All K700 owners who have a DSS20/25 sync station can now update their K700's using Sony Ericsson's online firmware update service.

    It was mentioned a few months ago on esato, and the service was live back in early July for testing but then removed, but it's back up again and looks to be fully operational.

    I just attempted a firmware update using the service and it worked perfectly. I previously had R2A on my SIM-Free K700 and the service successfully updated it to R2L. It's a pretty straight forward process and the instructions to guide you through it are very clear and simple to follow. The whole process took about 20-25mins. Pretty cool huh. :cool:

    All I get is "Unknown error" , I have installed the sync Station , but cant get it to connect ?

    Any Ideas !

    Make sure that the mobile phone monitor is running (and has a green tick) before you try the update. That ensures that the phone and sync station are talking to each other. Thats the only thing I checked before I tried the update. Try that if you haven't already and report back.

    I am getting a flashing gold tick , no steady green tick .. Hmmmmm :confused:

    Thats the problem then. Sounds like your sync station drivers could be a bit dodgy. Try uninstalling all your sony ericsson sync station software including drivers, and then reinstall the latest K700 drivers which you can get here.

    Also download and install the K700 file manager which you can get here.

    Then what I do is put my K700 onto the sync station and then double click on the "my phones" icon on your desktop, which you will have after you install the file manager. That should open up the "my phones" window aswell as start the mobile phone monitor. After a few seconds you should see a green tick in the mobile phone monitor and the "my phones" window should find your K700. If that works then you know your phone is successfully connected to the sync station so try the update again.

    Can you transfer files to your K700 via "my phones"? Click on "My K700i", and try copying one of your pictures saved on your phone, onto your PC via the sync station. If that works then you know that your sync station and K700 are definitely talking to one another.

    Where did you get your phone? Because it seems to be only working with totally SIM-free and unbranded K700's at the moment. Even the O2 (uk) K700's which have minimal branding will not update using this service. However you get an error saying "There are no current updates for your operator" if thats the case and not the "unknown error" message you have been getting.

    Did you get as far as downloading the seus_setup115.exe file? If so make sure that you have installed it and then try again. If you are not getting that far I could send you the .exe file. PM me if you want it.
