Old Jerseys v New Jerseys

I know this is a subject you all have kicked around in the past but forgive me I'm new to the site and would like to gauge current opinion on the subject. Basically I hate 99% of current jerseys, intercounty or club. On the county scene all we ever seem to get is this years version (usually with some fancy shading) in different colours according to the county. There's just too much happening on jerseys, a mish-mash of colours and crests and sponsors. Call me old fashioned (I hate the defensive formations in football) but our games are for hard men with a parish, small club tradition, not fancy boys in floppy jerseys (CorkvKilkenny wasn't pretty but it was tough). I know the progress made in the professionalism of our games has helped our organisation grow immeasurably but I love to see the old matches and here old stories of great endeavours. I would love to get hold of retro jerseys worn by my childhood heroes and further back. To have the same jersey as worn by Christy Ring, Mick O Connell, Sean O Neill or the same jersey as worn by Dublin or Kerry of the 70's, what about the laced front jersey worn by 1949 football champions Meath? This would start many a conversation to keep us warm at cold National League games or in the pub afterwards. I believe retro jerseys are very fashionable across the water, is there any place for it in GAA? Can you get retro GAA jerseys? Should we look forward not back? Your opinions please

P.S. sorry about long post (I get carried away)

Im a big fan of the retro jersey myself, I actually own a Cork jersey from 1981 All Ireland Championship, a dublin Jersey from 1985,88 abd 91 the Dublin 1985 being the best. I think teams should have individual shirts that are not the same as their neighbours in a different coulur. dublin seems to lead the way in this, Their Jerseys are usually origional ( and others copy) ..But as for the future I see are jerseys moving towards the likes of The england Rugby jersey, tighter fitting and the New Zealand Jersey which actually has a little "gripper" patch on the chest to assist the player holding the ball.

I dont know where you can buy old Jersey's but if any one finds out let me know

Shame on you Al, not only do you own a Cork jersey, but you annouince it on t'internet :D . Now that is just not right! In relation to the jerseys I do not really have a strong opinion one way the the other right now, although I would not like to see them go the way of the England rugby jersey.

I agree with both points, a Dub with Cork jersey?? (that must be a first Al) and lets not follow English rugby please. I think the point is lets be a bit more original with our jerseys. Waylander, I know you don't have any real preference on the old v new but would you wear a retro jersey?

I only really wear jerseys when training or playing, so I would wear one, but only if I was playing ball myself.

the rugby style tight fitting jersey might be an advanteage on the pitch but it wont exactly suit many of the average punters wit beer guts
