I burned a DVD today that I downloaded and while watching it I thought it was bizarre that in the middle of a conversation on screen, music would start playing, almost drowning out the dialogue. I thought it was maybe the director trying a new style

Until, that is, until at one point a cop is talking to one of the characters, music starts, then some gunshots and screaming, none of which is reacted to by the characters on screen. This is when I realised that as well as the correct sound, I was also hearing the sound from a different part of the movie.

I've played the vobs on the pc with nero and it's the same so it's not the burning. Could it be a weird codec problem (never heard of this with dvds before) or is it just a cr4p rip and I've wasted 4 gigs and 3 days on it? Can anything be done to rescue it?
