Anybody any help for me..? I have a 80GB Seagate hard drive but my comp only recognises 32GB's of it... I remember reading somewhere ages ago about some partition software so i could make two drives with it but I would prefer to just have it as the one 80 gig full drive.

you can probobly download a free drive partioning software from the segate website that should partion your drive as one large drive for you.

you probly have the file system set to FAT32, it needs to be converted to NTFS.

Format it to NTFS or use a partitioning tool other than the Windows one.

Right guys, to much info.. lol and silly me... its not an 80 gb its only 40 gig but I still only have 32gb registering. Anyway, if I change the jumpers on it from what was recomended i.e. Limit Capacity To 32 Gigabytes , this being the last pin setting (there are five pin settings in total) it just makes the drive stall on start up. It won't recognise it as a slave, master with a non compatible ata drive, master or single drive, or enable cable connect. I checked out the Seagate website but it makes reference to updating the BIOS and I aint got a clue 'bout that so maybe I should just be happy with my lot considering I am only missing 8 gig's. Am I being greedy or should I give it a go at changing it..??

and btw I only just reformatted the drive cos I reinstalled windows xp as the pc was dog slow and I burnt alot of stuff onto cdrw. That didn't make a difference as it still only recognises 32 gigs..

You using Fat32 or NTFS? You should of got an option for either while reformating.

Yeah Ciaran im pretty sure I chose FAT32 alright but if I reformat the drive to NTSC will I not lose all my data..?

XP allows you to convert the drive to NTFS while you install. I would however recommend installing WinXP on the FAT32 partition and then using the Drive Converter tool.

    a. What size is the BIOS reporting ? (press F2 /Del for setup etc.)
if this is 32 then you either need a BIOS upgrade or a program to load ahead of the OS.

    b. which OS are you using ?? - Win95/98 Fdisk has llimits.

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Storage/Q_20659078.html - wade through that page - some of the info might apply , but since you didn't give any details then I shan't either :D
