    This is wrecking my head!

    I've got:
    Dell P 4
    512 RAM
    XP Pro
    UTV Clicksilver

The problem is my pc keeps hanging. It only happens when I'm online but when it does there is absolutely no response (no mouse movement, nothing) and I have to power off.

A guy in UTV figures it might be that the USB card is buggered and I should buy a new USB PCI.

There is a USB port in the front of the tower which I tried and thought it worked until I went to download off Cnet and presto - same problem. :(

Should I buy a new USB card? Any suggestions much appreciated! :)

You using an Alcatel USB modem and a VIA chipset on the motherboard by any chance? I used to have a major problem with an old machine - turns out the USB modem would try to draw more current than the USB port was able to supply. A powered USB hub would be a better bet than a PCI card, although an ethernet modem would be an even better idea (assuming you have a network card)...

Makes sense. Can't remember the modem make and not sure about the via chipset but I just rang UTV again. They want to charge me €75 to get an ethernet modem.

I'm going to try using without my mouse which is on USB as well, just to see if it takes any pressure off. Other wise I might take your advice on the ethernet.

    Thanks for that
