Does Mozilla, Firefox, and the like not work?

With Linux you can turn your gmail account into a file system! 1 GB of off site storage space! Check out GmailFS!

Why are you using RedHat 7.1? That's seriously old. Not sure if gcc 3.x compiled software will run on it (most software today).

Firefox 0.8 was the last release to have an official gtk+ 1.x build - http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.8/firefox-0.8-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz You could try that and see if it works. Otherwise you could try downloading the latest source - http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.9.3/firefox-0.9.3-source.tar.bz2 and building it yourself.

AFAIK, it won't (even Redhat 8 is GCC2.x based). The logical successor to RH7.1 would be Fedora Core (Redhat have farmed out their "free" distro, now called Fedora... hat... geddit? I know, I know... anyway, read this for more info on this.)

Unless you're running ancient hardware (i.e. less than, say, a PII/400MHz, with say 128MB of RAM?) download and install a Fedora Core release - as you're using a pre-8 version of Redhat the appearance may be a little bit of a shock, but it's quite comfortable, really.

If you're running hardware of lower spec than I've described above, you may be better off with an old flavour of Linux. Otherwise, an OS upgrade would be strongly advised. 7.1 is over three years old (released 16/04/2001), after all - that's a long time in computing.

    Hope this helps,
    Gadget
