Ok, accordning to this unoffical Futurama website (Can't Get enough Futurama) and they are reporting the following:

I've been getting heaps of mails about the following rumour . It claims that there is a 50% chance to futurama coming back, but no other sources have confirmed this yet. So we might be dealing with some hoax again, if there is more news about this I will inform you about it. But in the meantime, don't get your hopes up
    10-09-2004 Andie

The rumour link is quoted as following:

    More Futurama on the way?
    Posted on Thr, 9-Sep-2004

The word around the campfire is that due to increasingly good sales on the “Futurama” DVD sets and Video Game, Fox may be firing up the grill on another season of Matt Groening’s show.

The series, which was on air for four seasons, never reached the heights of popularity achieved by “The Simpsons”, but was applauded by critics & fans everywhere.
At the time the show was “pulled indefinitely”, the rumour was that at least another season of the show was in the early to 50% complete stage of production, and may be “revisited further down the road”.

Well, according to a couple of sources, they may just have gotten a little further down the road, so hopefully for fans of the show, there will be more Fry, Bender, Leela and Dr. Zoidberg on the way this time next year!

There was actually 5 seasons of Futurama by my reckoning!

Anyway, mixed feeling about this news.

There's so much quality in the Futurama that currently exists that I'd hate to see it's overal level turned to crap by doing a Simpsons on it and flogging it past it's sell-by date.

When news of more Futurama comes around I just keep thinking .... 'how much more would I like and enjoy the Simpsons in general right now if they'd axed it in 1995?' and the answer is .... a hell of a lot more.

A superbowl Simpsons episode will always be good however. This is possible because there is no perception of reality - Homer can die and come back - there is never a need to suggest the last series was just Homer's dream because some bad script-writer painted themselves into a corner. I agree that there are now more jaded episodes - but interspersed with gems. No reason to kill it imho.

    superbowl? dont you mean holloween?

While I'd hate to see futurama end up like the simpsons, Id say it still has a series or two in it minimum before it goes downhill... i mean, simpsons took around 10 years to go crap (well, maybe 8, if you discount the first 2 series of stink),

Superbowl & Halloween - Methinks the bucks - advertising revenue is in superbowl though - hence superior episodes.

Do agree - it's just the halloween/superbowl episodes that are significantly creative/funny now - hell If they pay the costs with profit its worth it - there's the occasional gem outside these intervals!

There's more mileage with Futurama at least one more series, maybe 2.

Basically, FOx in the US decided that the program wasn't pulling in strong enough ratings, decided to axe mid way through the 5th series, depsite a huge petition being signed online with nearly 250,000 signitures wasn't good enough!

Ahh, crap, now the 4 series in one box set im buying wont be complete.

even so, futurama is a classic and will be good to see back.

...once they dont run it into the ground like the simpsons.

Futurama was terrible. I hope it doesn't come back. The only funny thing ever on Futurama was Captain Zap Brannigan and his green sidekick.

How dare you !!!. Take your Futurama bashing somewhere else. MUPPET.

Futurama had quite a few funny bits but not enough to make me watch it all the time, if it was on I'd watch and that's about it, oh and I did buy vol 1 on DVD. I doubt it will make a comeback, it's just people adjusting the family guy rumour which turned out to be true. But then Family Guy trounced all over Futurama

i absoultely LOVE futurama. it makes me laugh out loud more than the simpsons, which isn't hard because the simpsons has gone a bit crap. it can only be good news if it's making a comeback

I thought Seson 4 was getting increasingly better as it went along. And the last episode was very funny with the Robot Devil.

I do hope they can get it back, and if they do I want to see more of Guenther!

I guess a comeback would ber good, there's plenty of craper stuff out there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,264 ✭✭✭JBoyle4eva

if it there is to be a comeback, I wonder hwo'd they deal with their teaser on wether did Leela and Fry really get together and live happily ever after! even if they comeback, It'd be good even if it was just on DVD only!

It would be cool to see it back again. In it's short time it has become a classic. Brilliant episodes.

Although, syaing that, I would rather see more Family Guy.

The characters in family guy aren't as likeable as the simpsons in my opinion. That's why I don't like it as much.

The return of Futurama can only be a good thing. I loved it. The Simpsons are crap, seemingly all the writers left the Simpsons to work on Futurama.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,872 ✭✭✭segadreamcast

Would love it. Three seperate people in the last week were talking to me about how they've recently discovered how much they liked this programme (due to it being on at decent-ish times on Sky One right now - apparently).

Anyway, at least it seems to be getting the recognition it observed. It was, and always has been, unfairly overshadowed by Family Guy - which, in my opinion, has occasionally been outdone by Futurama.

The eclectic mix of bizarre, imaginative characters was one of the best ever compiled in a cartoon. Anybody (and I pretty much mean anybody) could have half a season of episodes devoted to them in that programme, and the stories would hold. There was so much scope in that programme... so much true potential. Such a shame that it was wasted methinks :(.

I doubt it'll be coming back *dejected sigh* [/rain on parade]
