we found a panasonic sv3800 DAT player/recorder in the shop where i work. we came across it in 1998 when we repaired it for a customer and to cut a long story short they let us keep it. we are just wondering what is it worth or is DAT a thing of the past?

ebay is a good place to find out the value of old stuff. You need to sign up to view completed auctions, of which there is only one item, listed twice and both times it went unsold at $299, on sale again now, still at $299. Some crazy Greek is looking for e799 for one but he won't sell it and there is a third going in England with a few people bidding on it, you can view here (finishes in 20 hours):

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15199&item=3746813493&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

It should not reach £200, if you stick yours up very soon you might get the losing bidder from that auction (I know first thing I do when I lose an item is look for another auction of one).
