bikini line - waxing or shaving?

    hi all

i'm just wondering if many girls here get their bikini lines waxed? not being a regular swimmer at either the beach or the swimming pool, i was a little shocked recently when away for a weekend with friends and planning a day at a health spa.

now, i've never been so hairy as to really need to shave or wax down there to stop them showing when i wear normal bikini/swimsuit, so i never worried about it, and imagined it was something only a minority did. then when the time came to bare all in the sauna, i noticed that the other 3 girls were shavers.

what with hipster jeans and all the rest, i've started to shave the little part just at the top sometimes, although my jeans rarely ride *that* low. so now i'm thinking of the possibility of biniki waxing. does anyone have much experiance with this, and know for example how is it when the hair grows back etc?

and now knowing that at least a few of my friends do shave wax, i'm wondering if guys are so used to this that a girl who doesnt comes across as a very hairy lady indeed, or would it be a complete shock if you slept with someone for the first time and found that she had very little hair down below?

sorry if it seems a little bit of a filthy topic, but it is a genuine personal issue quiery! :P

Well I'm a guy and I definitely prefer it neat and tidy down below. As a matter of fact, lots of hair turns me off. So to answer your question I would not be shocked if a girl had very little down below.

Personally I wouldn't shave and would def opt for the wax. Get a brazilian and tbh if you get it done you'll never go back to being hairy ;) - you'll need to get it done around every 4-5 weeks. Painful enough so maybe take a couple of painkillers beforehand if your pain threshold isn't great.

I've done it all down there... shaved, waxed, used hair removal creams and it's all been unpleasant. If you shave you itch like mad when it grows back and you run the risk of ingrown hairs(I got them a lot) and of cutting your self. If you wax, you can do it your self.... which I DO NOT recomend.. messy and painful or you can get it done at a salon... this is embarrassing and very painful.... it lasts a lot longer then shaving but different types of wax can have different effects on your skin. I got a very bad reaction to one type of wax.
So then your down to hair removal creams... most of them smell really bad and they can also irritate the skin and they are messy....
But there is hope. I have recently started using the Razorless razor kit from Veet... this is a cream that you put on and leave for 3 minutes and then use the razorless razor to shave it off... it really works and it's not messy and it last for 2 - 3 days...(longer then shaving but not as long as waxing) it's totally painless and it's no where near as smelly as the old veet products... There you go...give it a try.

Yes I meant to say the itch is terrible if you shave. Not worth it! That razorless kit sound great from Veet. Might try it on my legs. I have to have my legs really smooth and shave everyday so would be great to get a bit longer without having to shave. Is it expensive?

yea, that's the thing about it, it's nearly 10euros for a can and the razor. Doing my legs, bikini line and arm pits I'd get about 2-3 goes from a can. So it's more expensive then Venus razor blades but then I think it's worth it.

Not too expensive though as I find the blades go blunt fairly fast (due to shaving my legs and underarms every day and my arms every now and then! - I just hate body hair - only like hair on my head :) )and I use the Wilkinson Sword ones and the 4-pack refill is around €7ish and I also use the imprerial foam burst whilst shaving which is dear enough. Will def try the Veet now.

    god, thanks guys.

i didnt know shaving down below went on so much. i hope i havent scared too many boys along my way! but no one ever mentioned it before.

if you use veet razorless razor kit, how much hair do you remove? all of it altogether? or just a kind of a trim? or just so theres a still a tiny line of hair? i think i saw a girl on tv with that once. is that normal?

if you wax, does it get to a point where your hair isnt growing back half as much?

Using veet cream and shaving is only gonna make it look twice as worse and itchy! The best thing you can do is get it waxed off..

I don't agree at all... I've never liked waxing and I've had it done a lot. In my experiance the veet razorless razor kit is the way forward. Waxing hurts... and it dosen't last as long as it should for that amount of pain... I could put up with the pain if it was worth it but it's not.
As for how it looks... I reckon its the same, no real difference at all

Only noticed this part just now, yea I have found that the veet and the waxing has reduced the amount of hair and the thickness of the hair that grows back.

I would go for just a trim, I tend to leave a kind of "landing strip" :) if you know what I mean. How big or small is up to you... but I've done the totally bald thing and it just feels strange... bit kiddish if you know what I mean. My boyfriend thought it was really odd!

For me, i like the bare look or at least a landing strip, just wish more ladies would look after down there

so i had a bit of a go in the bath after work. as i mentioned before, i've shaved a little down there, but not to this extent. and i have to say, its not as uncomfortable as i'd expected. not very itchy, and no red pimple things. but maybe ingrown hairs take a few days?

anyways. just another question... the bits that grow along the edges, inside the thighs and uh.. bum cheeks part.. whats the story there? i'm a little too worried to try a razor there, does anyone else actually manage getting these bits off? those are the bits i find particularly offencive.. if you get a brazillian do they take these bits off?

does the veet stuff burn or irritate if it gets on the non hairy more pinkish bits?

shaving is horrible.. cos when it grows back its like sand paper..

Waxing is defo the way to go.

Keep it neat girls.. smooth, strip or triangle ;)

girls girls girls, please get down there with the lawn mower, strimmer, hedge cutters what ever, I know I know what ye are saying I'm just being a selfish bloke, yeah probably, but c'mon admit it when the garden is all nice and tidy there is far more chance of going out to play!!! There is also wayyyyy more chance of a bloke taking the south bound route if there is little or no hair there, don't get me wrong, I always wanted to be a pilot so a little landing strip isn't any harm, nobody likes putting from the rough, we all like the smooth green to play off.

If you get a Brazilian done they get EVERYTHING.... They get you to put your legs in the air so that they can get in at the back and they rip them all out... To be honest you'd want to be very thick-skinned... literally and metaphorically.
Again I'm going to come back to veet... I use it to get rid of hair in "those area's" too

And yes guys your right... if the garden is tidy you are more likely to go out and play :D

yeah see the thing i'm worried about the veet stuff is that i used regular veet on my legs before and it was pretty stinging. i dunno, i think its like that with everyone, but anyways, my worry is that i'm not going to be too neat about applying it to those most awkward places, so if it gets on my actual non hairy private parts (which i actually cant imagine NOT happening) is it going to sting like hell and turn into disgusting blisters? and also, will it make the area stink to bejesus of the stench of hair remover for 2 days?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭Battlesnake

WAXING the only way to go. You'll never look back, I promise!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭Velvet Vocals

Well all I can say is that I do use the veet stuff in that oh so sensitive area and it does get into those awkward places but it doesn't sting or hurt or leave me with big blisters. But I reckon it's just something you'll have to suss out for your self. Try it and see how you get on - then try the waxing too because you might find that it suits you better. Either way it's no big deal, you just find something that works for you and stick to it. Goodluck. :D

Was listening to the Gerry Ryan show yesterday morning(while drifting in and out of consciousness) and remember hearing a bit about a new beauty salon in dublin, think its called Neu Bleu, that has got one of the original Brazilian sisters who brought the "brazilian" to the world (in New York) over to teach its beauticians had to do the brazilian properly. If done right its not supposed to hurt, apparently...
twas funny, the 1st caller on about it was a northern guy who said he got it done. Ryan asked him if it was for a dare or something. A moment of shocked silence followed when yer man said "no, i got it done for my partner. I'm gay". twas funny :)
