Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Unlike the Korean language, the Korean Alphabet is very easy to learn. Korean words are made up of syllable blocks. These blocks are made up of the alphabet letters.

    Eg. 밀 instead of ㅁㅣ ㄹ

    The blocks are made up like one of the following.

    C = Consonant.
    V = Vowel.

    C   C   CV   CV   CV   C
    V   V         C   CC   V
        C                  CC

    read from left to right, top to bottom.

    Examples.

    주 줌 가 감 칾 굶

    If the vowel has a long horizontal line then the letters go from top to bottom.
    If the vowel has a long vertical line then the letters go from left to right.

    Double letters are more pronounced. eg. ㅅ = s ㅆ = ss.

    Consonants.

    ㄱ = k (ㄲ = kk)
    ㄴ = n
    ㄷ = t (ㄸ = tt)
    ㄹ = l
    ㅁ = m
    ㅂ = p (ㅃ = pp)
    ㅅ = s (ㅆ = ss)
    ㅇ = ng (if the first letter in the syllable then it is silent)
    ㅈ = c (ㅉ = cc)
    ㅊ = ch
    ㅋ = k
    ㅌ = t
    ㅍ = p (b)
    ㅎ = h

    Vowels.
    Vowels are generally preceeded with a ㅇ as vowels can never be the first character.

    아 = a
    야 = ya

    애 = ae
    얘 = yae

    어 = aw
    여 = yaw

    에 = e
    예 = ye

    오 = o
    요 = yo

    우 = u
    유 = yu

    이 = i

    으 = eu

    와 = wa
    왜= why
    외 = we
    웨 = wei
    워 = wo
    위 = wi
    의 = oi
