I know there's a sticky, but it seems to be mostly online retailers... I know they'd be cheaper online, but this isn't for me and it's not my money, and tbh I think the person just wants to buy one from a shop.

So I need to know a few places in Dublin where I can walk in off the street and buy one, feel free to list obvious places like Dixons, Compustore, Peats or whatever because I'm not sure if any of those places actually have them.
Also if its a chain could you include which branch/outlet.
Somewhere with decent prices and after-sales support would obviously be a bonus too ;)

    Any ideas?
    Thanks. :)

Compustore have a special Mac shop on Kildare street, just around the corner from their normal PC shop on Stephens green. That's the only handy 'walk in off the street' place I know of in dublin, though I have heard that PC World do Macs too..

Yeah I saw that link in the sticky, online just isn't an option though.

Thanks for the tip Dr_Teeth, that's one for my list anyway.
I remember seeing some mac stuff in PC World a few years ago alright, but I don't remember seeing any the last time I was out in the Blanchardstown one... there again I try to stay away from the 'whole PC' section when I'm there as it usualy results in some muppet approaching me offering "help".
It's like - "yeah if I need any help reading the clearly visible spec-sheet I'll give you a call".

honest to God save yourself the hassle of Compustore, they're pants. There is that new place on lower Grafton Street and I saw mac books in PCWorld in Liffey valley - which may be an indication of other hardware stocked

The new O2 'upmarket' stores sell Apple laptops - theres one in Henry Street and one in Grafton Street - Spectra also sell apple stuff they have a new store at the Trinity end of Grafton Street - not sure if they have laptops in stock though but worth a look anyways.

Try the 3G stores in either Henry Street or Blancardstown.

    Hi,

I waited 6 weeks for a Powerbook G4 from Compustore on Kildare St. with no sign of anything appearing, but then got one within a day from The Mac Shop (01 6788288) on Merrion Square (big black door on the south of the square over towards Fitzwilliam St.).

    Cheers, dB.

I was over there yesterday and they were doing 15" Powerbooks for 2176 euro which is about avarage, it's a nice setup with plenty of digital devices connected to the macs to show off their capabilities - DV cameras and digital stills cameras. T'was all I could do to stop my credit card hopping onto the counter and plunging me further into debt !!! The only thing was that the staff - while helpful - didn't seem too well up on the Mac OS.

Forget about PCWorld in Blanch, all that was there was a couple of old iMacs in a manky state with no-one able to demonstrate them and 149 euro for Norton Internet suite for Mac seemed a bit OTT !

The Mac Shop on Merrion Square is great, but they don't really seem to display stuff so it's kinda a case of having a rough idea of what you want / need. Having said that I ordered a .Mac subscribition from them (I was figured they'd want a big deposit first) and got a call before lunch to say that they had it in already.

The O2 Experience stores on Grafton St & Henry St seem pretty good although they carry a slightly limited range (then again many many people actually need a dual G5 Power Mac).

As for the store on Kildare street, if they have it in stock at the time they are good if not you're gonna wait a very long time, to be fair to the lads in there they do everything they can, it's more to do with people higher up the food chain in compustore.

And finally PC world, as the largest retailer of PC's in the UK & Ireland, it suits Apple to be in their store's even though in the words of someone relatively high in Apple "we'll never make any money out of them".
