Expressing Hurt without Injury - any ideas?

It can be hard sometimes to let important feelings out, and unfortunately painful feelings we bury don't go away. They stay inside, making us feel miserabe or frozen, wound-up or depressed. Some people express their hurt by injurying themselves. others like to write poetry and get their sadness down on paper.
Listed here are some ways we can express our feelings. Any more ideas?

Keeping a diary - of thoughts and feelings
Talking - to someone who'll listen.
Drawing - not 'art' but shapes and colours
Writing letters - not necessarily to send
Writing poetry, stories, or just odd words
Listening to music - which fits how you feel
Crying - into a pillow if need be
A punchbag, a drum, or dartboard - improvise
Shouting and swearing - on paper if not aloud.

Try making some music. Computers are common enough, a modest music program is cheap, give it a try. Or a real instrument, if you have one.

Go to a beach, command the ocean to stand still. Keep roaring at it, ordering it to stand still. It's a humbling and unbelievably liberating experience.

If that doesn't float your boat, hit the gym. You can take out your frustrations by burning off your energy and the endorphine release afterwards will make you feel better. :)

    Good luck.

You could just break something e.g smash a flower vase on the ground.. might help you feel better!!

Hehe, a friend of mine rang me up once when I was really, really angry, and he ordered me to go outside somewhere, fill my lungs with air and at the top of my voice, scream "BANANAS!"
I did it, and burst out laughing straight away.

If you are going to break something, break something cheap.

Chop firewood. Those bottles you were going to take to the bottle bank - take them and chuck 'em in hard.

It's not acceptable to hurt people.

    I have found praying/meditation works.

If someone really annoys me I wish them well, it sounds a bit odd but I find hate is too strong an emotion so converting my feelings into something positive works.

Looking at the stars and seeing how small we are is another thing that works.

Spending time with animals is yet another one.

If I need to let off some steam in a hurry I put my iPod on max volume and walk as fast as I can listening to fairly heavy music.

Being altruistic - helping people is another positive.

And where would we be without Doom 3!

This is a good way to burn energy, fill up your MP3 player with dance music and go running on a treadmill for as long as you can....it's fantastic to just keep running until the sweat is pouring of you. Then a nice cool swim or a spot of the sauna or steam room, just perfect and it will make you feel all fresh and new.

Not after midnight across the road from my sister's house after you've had a big cheese and wine party though. May induce homocidal feeelings. :D
