    hey all,

bought a 97 audi a4 1.9tdi and have a few questions about it,
anyone know where to get a leather interior for it? tried all the breakers around ect, also want to change the dial bulbs on the dash to a different colour, anyone done this and have any tips?

    Problem
I am getting an intermittent power loss problem with the car, can be driving along fine, then out of nowwhere i cant get passed 3k RPM in any gear, must noticeable in 4th and 5th, hence shag all acceleration and not something good to happen if your about to overtake,
solution to the problem at the moment is switching off the engine and back on again its grand, googled it and seen something about a MAF meter problem? what is it and how much!!!

any similar experience or advice appreciated,

    ps love the car!!

How does it accelerate? if it goes fine to 0 - 60 it could be something else,
from the likes of a stuck vnt mechanism, to an overboost problem, N75 going haywire, etc.

if it is MAF - It doesn't show up on diagnostic as being half fooked - it only registers when knackered completely.

It always is running fine before it happens, it never happens just starting off, always when driving, is a MAF expensive? got the air filter changed and didnt do anything for it,

Everyone else thanks for the links, will havea luk at it

A quick test for the MAF is to unplug it and see if the problem goes away. It should be located on the air ducting just past the filter box, you'll see the wire and plug sticking out. If it is the problem, try cleaning it first. You'll probably need a secure torx (star shaped with a hole in the middle) bit to take out the MAF then spray brake and clutch cleaner on the element to clean it. This could save you quite a bit. If the MAF is ****ed, a common problem with TDi's, a lot of people swear by pierburg (sp?) MAF's as used by mercedes rather than the bosch ones used by vw and apparantly they're cheaper too.

300+ euros for the OE bosch maf vs 90 euros for the pierburg merc one.
