I am looking to buy a set of irons. i am only 19 so im looking for steel shaft (im told I should use them anyway). I have been playing for two summers on holiday and am going to join a club now in dublin for the rest of the year. I have no handicap but think I could play off about 20, maybe a bit more.

i was looking in McGuirks at a set of Yonex V-Mass 270 Steel Shaft on sale at €450. Good deal or not?

shoul I get these clubs or any other suggestions.

P.S. I want a set that will last me for a few years and I feel i am quickly improving.

McGuirks are selling the Mizuno MX-15's for €349 with steel shafts. I'd go for them. It's widely accepted that Mizuno make the best irons in golf. I have a set of Mizuno Comp CT's which preceeded the MX-15's and I'm still very happy with them.

Here's a link to the manufacturers site: MX-15

I dont really want a very "forgiving" set as I am able to hit my dads long irons very well, its driving and pitching where I am let down. he has mcgregor dont know what type irons by the way. The guy in the shop said the Yonex were less forgiving with more feel. does this make sense?

maybe the mizunos are best ill have to have a look.
Which mcguirks is best? Is it the one in Howth?

    thanks

Well you said you were off 20, so that's why I recommended the MX-15's. I'd be wary of getting irons designed for the better player until you are off a lower handicap. They tend to be dearer and there's no point shelling out 500-600 euro on irons that you won't be able to hit consistently. If you feel you want to get irons designed for the lower handicap player then look at muscle back's or blades, but I would recommend that you stick to a cavity back such as the MX-15 or similar for the moment. You can always trade them in and upgrade as your game improves.

Thanks for the advice I may go that way then, just stick with cavity backs. Is McGuirks the best place to get clubs or is there anywhere else good?

I mean real shops or pro shops in dublin,
    No internet malarky.

    Thanks again.

Yeah probably McGuirks and Golf Works. They are all pretty much the same. Don't forget to barter with the sales guy. He might drop the price a bit or throw in a few extras like a couple of packs of golf balls etc..

Yeah your right about the Mizuno MX-15's, great clubs. But i have played with the Callaway X14's for over a year now and they're very forgiving aswell and go a long way. You can get them for about the same price as the Mizuno's, its worth trying out a few if you can before you buy them. I find American Golf Discount have a great range of clubs and you can try them in their driving net before you buy them. They also have an excellent after sales service with a 2 year guarantee on all clubs even if they're second hand.
