isn't that part and parcel of web design, you get someone who knows a bit about using a computer (read: word, excel), they discover frontpage, suddently they can make professional web sites.

    example, http://www.ashbournepc.com/

Seeing the Golden web award on http://www.ashbournepc.com/ reminded me of this guy (web designer  ) who had a plaque on the wall.

I don't know if they are still going but the golden web awards (don't deserve capitals) gave their winners the oppurtunity to get a certificate to say they were part of the "World Wide Web Designers Guild" or something like that.

Well this guy had the thing framed behing glass on the wall behind his desk so its the first thing you saw when you walked in! Funnily enough he also has a cd on his desk with "1001 animated buttons" on it.

The problem is the Joe or Jane public don't know any better and they go to these "designers" and pay over the odds for crap.

I'm far from a great designer but it annoys me when people advertise "professional Web Design" when it's far from it.

I feel the need for a "Golden Tulip of Bucharest Web Award" - I run one up tomorrow.

He looks like one of those guys who buys templates off some Indian sweatshop design studio

    holy crap

    http://www.ashbournepc.com/

whats with the two links to two executable files down the bottom of that site? 'Bonnie' + 'David.' Weird. Anyone tried them?

+ Then all the hundreds of links at the very bottom... is that to try and gain google favour?

That http://www.ashbournepc.com/ site does look dodgy. I'm using Firefox, and the spacing is horrible. It's not even proper HTML : http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ashbournepc.com%2F.

    Really makes you wonder...

the http://www.nbcomputers.ie/home.html site looks amaturish as well. Again disregarding web standards. You can tell it was made my hand, just look at the source.
