Has anyone seen it on sale? I'd really like to buy one today, Apple will take about a week to get one out to me :(

The crappy Apple store in Merrion Sq don't even carry it.

    I got mine through eBay.

Dinger of a yokey - connected into my surround sound using the optical connection.

If you're joing it to an existing wireless network you may need to upgrade its firmware for better handling of wep. Also (I was using windows) don't use the Express Assistant Utility thingy to set it up use the Airport Admin Utility which is installed as a program. I had to drop off my home network and jointhe express network in order to flash it and then configure it for my network.

(just seen that the thread is months old....)

    Hi parsi,
where did you get the cable with optical connection?
    Can you control remotely?

make sure you have the latest Airport software (currently 4.1), your Software Update will check that - the Express may need the latest Firmware applied (currently 6.1.1), if it is required you should automatically be asked to apply this on first connection (if your Mac is up to date)

have found them really great - configured a couple now for friends with different set-ups; regular Wireless AP, Wireless AP + AirTunes, Extending an existing Airport network...

one note if you're going to use it as a Wireless AP and for AirTunes, depending on the number of active connections and data being pushed through the Express you may experience some audio interrupts - but as with anything your mileage will vary...

any decent hifi shop should have one - got one in a Sony Centre

if your Mac is Bluetooth enabled, within range and you have a supported device the likes of the Salling Clicker works a treat

otherwise you can use the KeySpan Express Remote

I used an optical cable i had - a standard toslink cable with a 3.5mm adapter on one end (for AirportExpress) can be got quite cheaply on eBay - cheaper than getting the monster cable set that Apple want to sell.

I control it remotely using an Axim and RemoteAmp - it works very well - on the axim I can see my playlists and library titles and moving tracks is virtually instantaneous.

The express holds up very well - I had music streaming all day yesterday without a hitch.

i don't get it.. what's the big deal about this?
if your streaming, surely your laptop is in the house with you.. would you not be safer connecting your laptop directly to your speakers?
that way there is no interferance at all, more control, and save yourself 130euro! ?
    am i missing something?
