USB Pen Drives Problem (with Windows XP Pro SP2)

    The system I'm having the trouble on is Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2.

    I have 2 USB Pen Drives. A 128MB and a 256MB.

    I bought the 256MB last week.

    The 128Mb worked grand but has started having a little buggy problem recently since I got the 256MB.

    If i use the 128MB on the Windows XP machine without having the 256MB plugged in aswell, then it has problems copying files to the pen drive and deleting from it. It gets partially through the job, the scrollbar moves accross and then at some random point it will stop. Windows says there is a copying error and the green activity light on the Pen Drive becomes permanently on. The green light even stays on after i click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" bit and windows says i can now remove the hardware.

    If I plug in the 256MB in another USB port.. and they are both on the system, then the 128MB one works grand. Copying to it and deleting from it is no bother.

    This issue also seems to be specific only to Windows XP as I tested it on my Windows 2000 Pro with Service Pack 4 and it works grand.

    Could anyone shed some light on what could be wrong?

    Just an update:
    I didn't install any drivers because I'm using Win 2k Pro and Win XP Pro.
    Driver CDs came with both Pen Drives but they are for Windows 98.

    I went searching through the registry and found entires in:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->System->ControlSet001

    I tried to delete them to see if I could get Windows to forget about the 256MB and 128MB so I could start fresh with the 128MB one but it wouldn't allow deletion (i was logged in as administrator).

    I'm currently going through the microsoft knowledge base searching for "usb". :confused:

    In case anyone is wondering, An example of the error message XP gives when I try to delete files is:
    Error deleting file or folder.
    Cannot delete filename:Cannot find the specified file.
    Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.
