    Get it here: http://www.gamespot.com/promos/dawnofwardemo/

"This single-player demo for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War lets you lead humanity's finest--the Space Marines--in a full early campaign level. The demo also contains 2 skirmish maps, and a tutorial mode! In skirmish play, players get to hone their Space Marine strategies against the computer AI."

You'll need to register for DLX to download it, or you can wait till fileplanet has the demo as the DLX plugin takes a right bit of clicking around in order to find what you need to do to install the bloody thing. Goto http://dlx.gamespot.com/ and click on the "About DLX" link in the top right hand corner. Hope you get it going quicker than I did.

    Less hassle URL : http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/wh40kdawnwar/dow_demo_install.exe.html

I grabbed it there over night, download speeds werent great (spent most of its time on 15k/sec from 3D gamer), but the demo is pretty good, the FMV intro is superb, exactly how I expect Warhammer 40k to look, so well done for that. The single player mission was pretty good, but it looks like playing the campaign through could be quite a good experiance, I also like how they use the in game graphics for the talking scene's, and even up close interacting with each other the graphics cant be faulted, superb graphics engine, hats off to them for that considering how easy it is to run. The skirmish maps were good, but the AI seemed far worse than the beta AI for some reason, in the beta the AI actually challenged you a little at times, but regardless, the 2 skirmish maps it gives are good maps. Overall a very respectable demo, and worth getting.

The gamespot link gives good speeds, i was pretty constant 48-58kb, the DLX software is an activeX plugin, so its pretty painless to remove after you get the files.

THANK GOD THERE'S A BITTORENT LINK!

Heh, I already have the BETA. Is this worth downloading the demo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,136 ✭✭✭Pugsley

I have the beta too Mang, if you have any connection above 256k, yes definately, if only for the FMV intro, superb stuff altogether, the mission it gives should also keep you entertained for about an hour or more, but if your on a tight download cap, dont bother really, only get it if you have free bandwidth.

Yeah, downloaded it via bittorent. Only took an hour and a half(god bless bittorent)
And WOW @ The intro... That was AWSOME

The campaigne seemse to be shaping up pretty good to! I love the way the in game events happen... The characters talking etc, it looks like a cut scene, but it's NOT!

Yeah, can't wait for the full version.

Did u try setting the AI level to Hard or higher? It defaults to easy.

I tried beating a HARD AI... it was bloody impossible... And that was the half way setting. In the full game there will be Very Hard and INSANE settings....

Heh, I can see aot of 7on1insane AI matches coming up
