When you download / view a flash animation, for example the likes of the ones at http://www.happytreefriends.com, on a computer with internet access they play just fine.

I download stuff like this from the colleges labs and sometimes they wont work on my home computer they just come up as a black white window, is this a security thing?
Do they not want people to be able to view their creations offline? or is it something i havn't done right on my home computer?

You have saved the .swf to disk and then tried to view it at home?

It might be a player version issue, your home comp might not have flashplayer 7 installed. It might also be that the movie access content from the server it's on, i.e. it's not self-contained, and cannot work without this content.

Right-click a flash animation in your browser (go to http://www.macromedia.com if you need a page with one), and at the bottom of the pop-up menu, it'll say "About Macromedia Flash Player <Version No.>". If it's not version 7, get it from the macromedia site here.
