Dont buy Q-tec power supplies....I was told not to but thought I knew better! less than 6 months and it has stopped working! now have to buy a replacement...install it and then send back broke one to Komplett.....wont give me a refund now because 2 long so can only get a replacement!! its useless to me so will just use for a backup!! buy a power supply from Elara or someone else!

Order your parts from www.jes-computer.de and you will probably save another 100e.

Use the money you save to buy either one of these two psus.

    tagan

    thermaltake

Both very good psu's although neither one is great for overclocking but as your not overclocking they are good.

As has been said dont go for a Q-tec as there ****e. Go for a Antec or a TT psu. Do you need to buy now tho as the 775 is new and expensive with very little gain over current P4 chips and mobos. If you can, wait till later in the year when dual pc-e mobos come out and the newer P4 775 chips.

Windows XP 64 is in beta. You dont need a 64bit os however as it runs 32bit perfectly. You may ask yourself why go for a 64bit then? Well when it does go 64bit ul be ahead of the races. Also the 64bit performans better than the 32bit at the same speed. Not sure the price difference between amd 64 and intel 32bit.

A 2.5ghz amd is equivalent to a 3.8+ intel so a 2.2ghz amd64 would be similar to a 3ghz intel (especially if your getting a 1mb ver). That said its hard to say without knowing more about what your gonna use the pc for.

Hey was turned off a socket 775 because i was told that the 478 was better at the moment. If there is a better line of 775 parts comin out do you know when,is it the end of the year or 05?

the computer is basically just a family computer. a lot of championship manager will be played, internet, office apps, a bit of image editing, and maybe of digital video stuff but would buy the card at a later date.

quite tempted by the a64 now...

Well I always throw in my 2 cents on AMD 64. Its hard to exactly compare one AMD 64 chip to an Intel chip. For example in 32bit amd 64 is faster for gaming by a reasonable margin so a 2.2Ghz AMD 64 would be faster than a 3.2 P4. Intel has several smaller advantages in 32bit such as encoding etc. The 64bit potential of AMD 64 is unknown but most linux OS that have both 32bit and 64bit version of the same OS state in that most apps the 64bit OS is 15-20% faster (on average I said some thing preform worse) benchmarks seem to bare out the fact that under 64bit in linux all intels advantages are reserved. Again windows xp 64bit is an unkown quanity this point due for a release early next year. Overclocking wise the Intels are probably slightly better. A 2.2ghz amd 64 and a 3.2ghz overclocked to there full potential on air preform about the same.

I'd go s775 if I was buying an intel machine right now. It has more upgrade potential in the future with higher speed processors and new pci-e cards that actually take advantage of the bandwidth. You have the option of sli with nidia cards as well. Why go s478 when s775 has more going for it?

A64 is really good now as well though but that doesn't have much upgrade potential either unless you get the new socket.

It's fine if you plan on changing the whole machine in a couple of years though.

Yeah but that like anything you get stuff now there is always better stuff around the corner. Next major thing cpu wise will be the change to dual core meaning no matter what format you going for your probably gonna have to change again. Most people don't upgrade often except performance freaks so those dual cores will probably be out long before an average user will buying now ill upgrade again. However this socket 775 looks the part with the higher fsb and other features. Will wait and see what performance is like I have not heard much.

This isn’t exactly the fastest 7200rpm Disk You buy, Try the WD 7200rpm I think it’s the better option. ;)

Other than that It’s a very nice spec.
