Will you be based in Iraq? Is so, please tell me you will be making a couple hundred grand a year. Otherwise you would be very very foolish to risk so much for an average or merely above average amount. To go over there you need to be making huge money to justify the possible kidnappings/drive-bys/beheadings.

What? Are we talking about souped up cars here or something? Why would a soldier on a ship want a car? Or Iraq for that matter, I doubt they do much travelling or sight seeing

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lenny

I think the money is 3k a week + comession and its tax free.
I will have more information about it after the itnerview
yes, its souped up cars the soliders are there for 6 months i think it is, i order them a car to their spec, when they fly home their car will be waiting for them in the us

Have a look at the gruesome videos, not suitable for kids - or anyone else really, posted on this site before you make your decision.
Be sure to take a full backup of your life before you go, just in case.

This folks, is why there are contractors available to do this work. Commission on top of 3k a week? In just three months, you would make more than the average *yearly* wage here in Ireland. Plus you get to experience a foreign country, and live in lovely sunny weather.

    Who wouldn't be tempted?

Id do it alright.. 3k and week tax free..

Sure if ya made €4k a week, you could take home well over €150k and still live it
up bigtime over there.. lets face it, its not as if you'd be able to go on the
piss every night out there anyway :D

    Anymore jobs going Lenny.. :)

With the construction jobs you need to be there a full 12 months to avail of the tax free status is the U.S. Not sure about Ireland though. It doesn't matter what the money is, there's no way I would work out there

I think it only costs €14K to have your head stitched back on in Germany.
....so €1600 for the flight from Iraq to Germany + €14K for the operation...
Not too bad considering all the money you'll make. ;)

Are you joking or what? You would need to be out of your mind (could make a bad pun here) to go and work in Iraq right now. There are easier ways to make a couple hundred grand than that - become an investment banker for Gods sake!

Sure what about all the people that are working voluntary and not making a penny are they all mad aswell my godmother is working there at the moment and this is her 3rd spell there i might aswell go over and get paid for it

I think lenny is on a winner, it would really depend where you are stationed, I wouldn't say there would be much danger.... Just make sure the company is well backed. OK so a few videos of so-called soliders getting their heads cut off. Whats the big shock, its a war for christ sake, if someone came into ireland and started killing your family & friends for no reason what would you do????

er, what about the helicopter engineer civilian who got his head chopped off?

what about the two engineers who were dragged from their cars, butchered in the street, set on fire, dragged down the road and hosted from a bridge?

what about the reporters who have been shot?

personally, i wouldnt go for any money. i put too high a price on my own life. and the life of my family. i dont see why you need to go out there anyway to sell them cars that are going to go to the USA.

    as for ireland....
what did you do when the Omagh bomb went off killing dozens of irish people? or should we just gloss over that one? or is different because they were killed by their 'own' side?

If a country invaded Ireland, bomed and killed 1000's of civilians, what if your family was killed & you saw plp drag & kill & cut heads off that occupying force, What would you say.

The Omagh bombing is a total act of terrorism & nothing compared to Iraq.

you are living on a different planet.

are you actually saying to me that people should go and live in iraq because their country was plundered and their people murdered, so if you are not a soldier you will be alright?

with regards to Omagh, your couintry was attacked. and i see no difference between 1 person killed and 1000 people killed. maybe im more of a humanitarian than you.
    but answer your own question.

what did you do when your country was attacked....

did you take your machette to the local english tourists?

I (vaguely) remember someone who does this talking on the radio months back about this, he seemed to think it was great . There was some catch to it - something like he'd get loads of orders out there but the hardly any of the soldiers would actually go through with it once they're home.
    Can't really remember

Ooh 26 minutes, good catch wwm.
I don't know what the link was, but considering the thread content, I'm willing to bet it was some seriously fúcked up stuff like the beheading of that poor fella recently.
It amazes me how such things are freely available on the net, for what is essentially a snuff movie. :(

I'm confused about this job though, why do they want to sell cars to soldiers for when they get home? Why not wait and offer special rates to them when they arrive back in the US?
Sounds like they just want to exploit the psychological state of the troops... tbh I can't imagine money having the same importance in a war zone as it has at home.
    Really boggles my mind :/

listen, i think we already knows what goes on.

that doesnt mean that want to watch it.

i have already made the point about what goes on over there. i just dont want you to post things like that here. i find them offensive. 99.99% of the world finds them offensive.
you dont need to offend people to make a point.

if you have something further to add, by all means do so, otherwise stop with the worldly smarst arse comments. this is a warning, not just for work, but for the entire boards. it is the only warning you will recieve.

eh... iraq does not equal fun.. or worth 3k a week.. imo
you can find the execution videos anywhere, i perticularly recommend
the execution of the 12 nepalese, for encouragement.

these are some dispatches from a reporter in baghdad, you might find some of it interesting..
there are more but i cant find em anywhere..
i think it describes the constant paranoia and isolation of westerners pretty well

and unless your in the "green zone" it doesnt sound like fun..

yea they were advertising this a while ago aswell. Back then they were paying €50K (not taxed) for 12 months working. There was no quarantee that you would be based in Iraq. You could be sent to Iran or Kuwait. I also remember them saying Dubai, which wouldnt be to bad as thats a safe place, isnt it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,506 ✭✭✭woody

Lenny word of advice from an Ex-Soldier me.

Mate you would be stupid to go out there unless you are in an army.

You will be under threat of death from Car bombs,Mortar attacks and being kidnapped.

I saw this and it is crud...my late brothers best friend is in Baghdad in the Marines and he has seen these guys doing this and to be honest they have little or no protection it is braindead.

Yes money great but your life is worth more.

I have been in some hell holes in my life but Iraq would be a culmination of those places.

Think about your family and also if you get killed they may never get your body back....

F*ck the tripe they will tell you in the interview it is grade 1 sh1t

I have two ex-army friends who are ex special forces and hard up for dosh and would rather be mercanires than that.

So think of your life and not money there are no free meals out there.

And yes you will be in Iraq and kuwait this I have confirmed.

I'd like to thank people for their replies,
I know that life is well worth more than money, but I am not doing this basicly because of money
as you stated woody family is much more important to be a target if I get injured/killed over there, but people may sign up for these jobs because thye aren't in their right state of mind with their family/friends, everyone knows what goes on in iraq these days and how dangerous it is. the only thing i am worried about being hurt over there is the motar bombs, they hit and the responce is slow and takes time to track them down though me da has knocked some sense into me, it won't stop me going to the interview(of course it'll be full of ****e to make me want the job) but I also wana go outa courosity to see what they tell you and how convinicing it is

I wouldn't go for it even if it wasn't in Iraq. Do you know how little money US soldiers make? Most of them are below the poverty line.

Everytime I see those poor unfortunate civilians on sky news who have been kidnapped and are waiting to be beheaded I wonder what the fúck they are doing there in the first place. I didn't think anyone would be interested in working in Iraq at the moment unless you were in the Us marines and had no choice. Personally I'd rather work on Mars. Lenny you must be mad.

As said by 8080, the recruiter was on today fm about two months ago. He said that it was commission only. It was also stated that only about one in every 20 sales goes through (this is what your commission is based on) and it is difficult enough. You will not make the money that the recruiter gives the vision of!
Remember that you are basically stuck in a prison as you cannot go out for fear of losing your head.
€100K per week would not tempt me!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,058 ✭✭✭Gurgle

Lenny, you have to consider the risk v reward of the job.

A much less risky career is this:

    1. Pick a country with an unarmed police force & strict gun control laws.
    ( - Hey, I know a country like that)
    2. Move there (if you don't happen to live there already) & get some shift work on a factory line
    3. Check out all the banks within a 60 mile radius, see which ones have the best conditions for fleeing.
    4. Do an armed robbery once a week, just taking the till money, don't even be tempted by the safe. The robberies should be done in the early afternoons, when you are between e.g. 2 twelve hour shifts. If questioned, you were asleep in bed on your own.

I think you'll find you take in at least €3k in each robbery and you are in practically no danger of being blown up, be-headed, shot, set on fire etc.
