My OS is a little fecked, i run win xp pro. It was running fine untill i turned it off for the thousanth time, through the start menu. then when i booted it back up 9which takes a little longer now. When i try and run a program ie winamp, iexplorer, even scan disk. they don't execute. Although they're present in the processes tab (not aplication tab)
Hav'nt installed anything recently, or changed any settings. all i was doing before the last boot was playing a mp3 in winamp.

    any suggestions?

Sounds like a possible virus. Try booting into safe mode and doing a virus scan.

Run antivirus! I had virus on work PC and couldnt get anything to run! even Norton Antivirus! ended up getting a test program to find name of virus and downloading removal tool from Norton to get rid....then had to reinstall Norton and run that to remove remaining corrupt files.....2-3 hrs later everythig was running fine!

cant remember name of virus now!

Only released in September! will have to reinstall norton in safe mode as well if it wont run.....wont let Norton install if running in normal windows! boot into safe mode with network support....install Norton.....update and run or run removal tool in safe mode if you know the name of virus

Would still run virus check! cud have been runnning for months in the background without you knowing! apart from virus not exactly sure wat cud be causing the problem.....I wud prob try and backup and reinstall Windows onto systems.....I usually freshen up image on my PC's every year! just get rid of the crap that can build up!

Yeah i did that last month. the pc is as fresh as a daisy. i finally got max payne 2 to run. When in game, i notice the sound was choppy and causeing slow down, so i reinstalled the sound drivers, seemed to be some progress, as when i re started winamps skin popped up for a second, which had never happened before. but after i restarted, same ol set of problems

anything in startup folder? delete everything from here! maybe run Ad-aware but if PC was never connected to internet this shouldnt be a problem!

tis weird i have to run max payne 2 before i can access the device manager, to reinstall the sound srivers, did this and didnt restart, and it runs perfectly, but fear for my next restart.
    Cheers for the suggestions lads

This may be entirely unrelated to your problem, but I think I read somewhere about an exploit someone pulled off to embed nastiness into a Winamp (5.x) skin? I think it's fixed in 5.05, but I thought I'd mention it in case it's relevant...
