The trinity college library is the biggest in ireland it has the legal right to anybook published in Ireland.

This is why most books are kept off campus or out-of-sight in santry or stacks respectivly. to use these one has to fill out a form and post it in a box and wait for it to arrive Which I think a little outdated they should consider getting an electronic order system but that might lead to people ordering crap they don;t resally want like say this EDIT <this was a link to the Trinity library record of playboy>

More info on the library can be found here and here

LOL....I'll really have to try that one day just to see the looks on the librarians faces....

Actually, i've ordered stuff like "spatial patterns in Catchment hydrology" and they bring me back enid blyton books. Really irks me sometimes as they wont take a call slip unless it has been fully completed, yet when they go to get books they only look at the holding number and none of the other details such as the ****ing author or title....and then you have to wait another day for them to do their job properly, as your deadline looms

Yeah and there's alot of filling out to be done on one of them slips. What I really hate is q'ing up to collect your book that you ordered and them saying it hasn't arrived yet.

The link doesn't work. It relates to a session that you were in at the time you posted. What book were you referring to?

I checked out 2 books there 3 weeks ago
They said I didn't have to have them back until Sept. 15th i think.
Heres the thing. When I got home I noticed that both had (ARTS XX XX) on the side. I'm an undergrad but aren't we only supposed to be able to take out LEN ARTS/etc BOOKs?

well yeah thats the setup for us down the sci end S-LEN books, maybe u got a staff/postgrad account on their system by accident ?

A project manager has been appointed to oversee the automation of Bookstack and Santry ordering - they hope to have the system in place before the end of the academic year. Hopefully that will mean an end to all the form filling.

It is annoying when the wrong book is delivered, but the library processes up to 800 requests a day and staff just don't have the time to check whether the call-number matches the title. Readers are asked to fill out the author/title details because it helps staff find books on the second viewing (when you hand in a call slip to view a book a second or third time).

99% of the time deliveries from Santry are late because of heavy traffic - there's not a lot that the Library can do about that. Ask the Duty Librarian whether the Santry delivery has arrived - it could save you queueing.

If an Undergrad was issued with an ARTS book by mistake - there may be a problem with the account, which could work in your favour. Keep quiet about it - it could come in very useful later on in the year when all the LEN or S-LEN copies of a book are out on loan.

Yeah I should really start checking the dates on posts... I started reading this topic getting more and more confused because I was certain there was already an automatic system!

Actually, I've been wondering about this for a while now...can we order normal books, like of the not academic variety? Novels and stuff? That would be cool...

when i was there you could but they'd sometimes be a little huffy about it.

Bit silly being huffy isn't it? It's not like it's any more effort...

And for every person who orders a Playboy or Enid Blyton for their own amusement, there's probably two behind them that are ordering the same thing for research for an essay or paper...

Its really annoying how few books in Trinity we can actually take out. Those LEN things are all too rare.

Please try not drag up 5 year old threads. Especially when redundant, there is another library thread on the go at the moment. Direct your frustration there. :)
