    Hello,

I cant connect both computers together with my cross over cable, when I try to connect it to the computers. One says network enabled and seems fine, where as the other network comes up saying "Aqquring network address" , then goes to saying "Limited or no connection"

So how do I go about making both computers talk to each other, and then go on to sharing my internet connection through both pcs.

    Please help, thanks loads.

    -Coz.

Ok for some reason it just connected when Blitz was trying to install red alert 2.

It just poped up in the bottem corner, and said, network area connection connected.

Can anyone tell me why in gods name it just connected? Just incase it drops again.

    Thanks.
    -Coz.

Go to computer one, and open up the network properties, and double click on TCP/IP

Set the IP to 192.168.0.1 (or similar, only change the last digit to something between 1 and 255). And set subset mask to 255.255.255.0 (that should work).

Then go to PC 2, and choose a different IP address, e.g. 192.168.0.2. But use the same subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Then you should be grand. Getting internet sharing is a little harder, but i can guide ya through that if you can get teh above working. To test if its working, try getting the comptuers to ping each others IP address.

Dynamic Host allows computers to obtain an IP address from a server, this has several advantages. Sometimes the computer gets confused and locked into a cycle of looking up an IP address. From the link above it seems that other people have this problem (assuming the OS is the same).

thanks for the little lesson on DHCP, I was infact joking. Several years of network support i sort of picked up the basic's.

ok well since the connection is working now, I have another problem.

When I go to Red Alert 2 to set up a network game it says something about no IPX, or something, anyone know how to correct this?

    Thanks.

right click network connection/open network connections/ then right click connection/properties/install/protocls/ choose IPX protocol - install it. :) .. done.

Hey thanks I installed the IPX thing and it seems to be grand, for some reason I cant host but blitz can, anyways not that big a deal, but annoying.. Im regreting getting it working, I just got my ass kicked in red alert2 for the past 2 hours by Blitz.
