I only like it, not love it. Hmm, maybe I'll buy it so. I'm sure it's cheap somewhere

yeah i knew that. also, they used real heroin in the drug taking scenes. ****ing intense

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭FX Meister

No, it's wasn't real heroin, but they all did take methodone before shooting began to get a feel for the stuff. River Phoenix was meant to play the lead but the methodone he received he injected instead of drinking and he died outside some club, thats when they got that other guy instead, yer man, the one that sings in that crap film and did ER. Youone Mac Greegly

oh my god, that's crazy. i didn't know that

Both those stories are utter bullsh*t

    1. Phoenix died three years before the film was made. He was on an speedball a coke heroin mixture. He did not recieve drugs from the producers of Trainspotting. Phoenix's drug abuse was extremely well documented, and it's unlikely he needed to score from a scotish filmaker who was busy editing shallow grave (In Scotland) at the time.

2.No respected filmaker would give their cast even methadone to let them understand the experience of heroin. This isn't the 70s Hollywood crap, that doesn't happen anymore. Ewen Mc Gregor et all met addicts and recovering addicts. Mc Gregor has gone on the record to state that he was tempted to try it, but after seeing what it did he decided againist it. Stupid urban myth on the internet what are the odds.

Finally river phoenix in trainspotting. that has got to be the dumbest suggestion for casting I have ever heard. It's so mindboggling untrue, the cast were pretty much entirely scotish (McGregor, Bremer, Caryle, Mc Donald) Could you imagine how farcial the "It's ***** being scotish" speech would have sounded coming from american lips

Does anyone know if porno is been made into a film?

Porno is the sequel to Trainspotting and not a porno just in case anyone thinks I've gone completely off topic.

okay mycroft. it appears sarcasm is a little harder to indicate in writing than i thought.

i was fully aware that kelly macdonald was 20 at the time of making the film and found this thread a bit pointless and boring. it wouldnt have been impossible for b-man to have looked up her age at the time before posting.

did people actually believe i thought they used real heroin in the movie?
    really?

ill make my mocking more obvious next time ;)

    callmestratcher

Sorry sorry sorry. Your sarcasm was missed in the whirlwind of bull**** of underaged sex and cherbic calfornians playing glaswegian smackheads, and scottish film producers feeding methadone to Old Ben Kinobi.

Just kinda floored by the misconceptions and ludricous stories and missed the sarcasm.

Nope Mycroft, it's completely true, Phoenix was asked to play the part long before anyone else was considered for any of the other roles. Danny Boyle was post production supervisor on the movie "Dogfight" and this is where he and Phoenix became close friends. They met long before this when Phoenix partly financed a UK TV mini series "Mr. Wroe's Virgins", which Boyle Directed. Phoenix was a big fan of the books and when an investor pulled out of the project last minute, which Phoenix had been following, he was more than happy to put money towards the show, making sure it would see the light of day.

I'm suspicious to see if it would have gone ahead though.

Phoenix's name attached to the script would have made it more sellable to a US company, but the film was eventually produced by film4.

I'm sorry I'll say it again River Phoenix shouting the "It's ***** being scottish speech" would have been an abomination.

Yeah but you have to put up with this crap in cinema, what about Julia Roberts in Michael Collins? Vin Diesel in xXx with his "I live for this sh1t" line, that one grates me personally as I'm an adreneline junky and he's got no idea what he's talking about.

It could have been so much worse...

Kevin Costner wanted to star as Micheal Collins in his version of the movie

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭FX Meister

That wouldnt have been so bad, nobody would have gone to see it anyway. Speaking of Kevin Costner, my sisters went to see some new film of his touted as his comeback (which one, ha ha) in Totonto. After the movie they complained as it was so bad and they were given their money back!!
