I'm also mightly tempted by this boxset.

Just so you know though, if you have a credit card you can pick it up about 20 cheaper on play.com.

According to Play.com, among the features is:

"Text commentary from Star Trek experts Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda on the 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' episode"

I've never seen this on a DVD before. Is it subtitled commentary where they don't speak at all, or is there any audio element?

I bought it last week for 76.99 euro on cdwow free shipping I thought the hmv price of 96 or whatever was taking the piss, anyway the quality is very good, the sound has been remastered in 5.1 and is as good as you can expect from the mono origional, the dvd extras are just ok, some interesting stuff there but it felt a bit rushed.

There is no commetary on any of the discs except for 3 episodes with text cometary, the text commentary is very good and quite often funny, its just a huge pity they just did not bother to do text commetary for all the episodes. oh well.

The only annoying thing for me was was the order of the episodes is strange on the DVDs, theyre ordered by origional tv air date not the production order, so for example you get man trap 1st (which has McCoy) but where no man has gone before as 3rd on the disk (which does not have McCoy). A minor point i suppose :D

I will buy series 2 and perhaps 3 just to complete it

Sounds good. Production order really would be ideal for the most part, or at the very least The Cage, Where No Man Has Gone Before, The Man Trap etc. The uniform change in the 2nd pilot alone is enough to throw continuity off.

Anyway, the text commentary - is it just in the form of regular subtitles, or is there more to it? Seems odd that they would offer to do a commentary, but not voice it... (Or maybe that's just me.)
