Recent Archaeological Discoveries on National Road Schemes
    7th September 2004

The National Roads Authority (NRA) will host a seminar on Recent Archaeological Discoveries on National Road Schemes, on Thursday 9th September, in The Grafton Suites 1 & 2, at the Westbury Hotel, Dublin.

The seminar, taking place as part of National Heritage Week is aimed at increasing the public’s awareness of some of the significant archaeological discoveries which have been made as a result of the extensive road developments being carried out under the current National Development Plan; it will set these discoveries against the staged process of planning, consultation and excavation that accompanies any major road project.

“To many people archaeology remains a bit of a mystery,” commented Dáire O’Rourke, Senior Archaeologist, NRA. “The seminar will allow anyone with an interest in Ireland’s archaeology to come and find out for themselves what exciting discoveries have been made on national road schemes around the country”.
The seminar will be open to groups of school children and other parties as well as individual members of the public. It will comprise of a series of short explanatory presentations as well as providing materials and visual displays of the NRA’s archaeological work.

Further information and copies of the brochure – “The NRA’s Guide to Archaeology” are available from Ann Church (NRA) Tel: 6602511 ext 305
