what's the jack-a-nory with "rere"?

    You often see the rear of a building referred to in Ireland as "rere".

    Is this hiberno-English, as i can't find the work at the www.m-w.com dictionary, and searching Google for "rere of" seems to show usage almost exclusively in Ireland.

    Or just bad English/spelling?
