I have this phone. It is a T610 with a better screen and fewer bugs.

Works fine for me! Camera/e-mail/large memory.

Saw the ad for that in the papers today.
What's it like compared to the Sagem myV55 on Voda & the myX5-2 on Meteor? Currently on o2 and not mad about the coverage & service.
Would the T630 be a worthwhile upgrade from the 7250i?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 798 ✭✭✭Akula

    stick with 7250i

Nokias have a far superior interface and texting..... Also the t630 is an incredible slow phone.
Only thing that phone is lacking is bluetooth.

Not anxious to get into a SE vs. Nokia slagging match but most people I know who have moved from nokia to SE have found it very difficult to get to like the SE interface.

I've a Nokia 3210 and I'm with vodafone. I'm very tempted now to switch cos I really like that SE. What would ye suggest? Is the SE alot better or should I go for a nokia instead and stick with vodafone? I want bluetooth and I think 179 with the 70 call credit is a good price.
Actually which do ye think are better vodafone or o2? ;)

Go for it . The T630 is a great little phone .

Dont know whether Akula has actually ever used on but SE's UI is superb , takes very little getting used to and once you do you will never go back to Nokia .

Very nice phone but aerial is cr@p comparing to others. I have nokia and sagem phones all on the same network which are always maxed out while T630 goes up and down

The T630 has been replaced.. Should start seeing some new models here soon.. I would hang on a bit.,

    The T630 has been replaced..

what has it been replaced with (and don't say the K700)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,442 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

The T630 is simply a revised model of the T610.. While the K700 may not be direct replacements, they have been launched with extra features and seem to go along way to address the complaints levelled at the T610 and other SE handsets, i.e. poor RF reception and a slow UI..

I would certainly consider a handset that seems to be aimed at the same market as the T610 and released 18 odd months later as enough of a reason to consider it a replacement..

    But... sure...

    revised - how so?

you were mentioning the T630 has been replaced already just curious what model you are referring to...

well T610 was announced Mar '03 (at Cebit), the T630 was announced Oct '03 (at CTIA) so that's 7 months

that aren't aimed at the same market but certainly a mistake often made - best think of a Powerbook (T610) vs. iBook (T630) comparison

The K700 is a new model recently released by SE. It has a superior feature list to that of the T610 and T630 while also addressing many of the problems that these handsets were criticised for... This handset will hopefully start appearing on these shores soon. I would recommend holding off for this model as it a better phone than the now dated T610 and T630..

as the K700 came 12 months after the T610 sure it's going to have an improved feature list... i'm only wondering how long you expect this person to wait for a K700 on Speakeasy and for it to reach a comparable price point... our networks aren't kown for thier 'speedy' availablity of new models especially on the Pre-Pay range

personally wouldn't go along with your thinking about any direct replacements to the T630 yet, but given your previous post it's not worth discussing it with someone who has such a tempremental disposition - you are reminded to keep your posts helpful and good natured

I had a t610. The main thing which bothered me was just how slow the interface was and how small the little texting window was. You'd be texting away and the software would be several words behind. A definate no no for anybody who does a lot of texting.

That's rubbish. It may be a little laggy when texting, but it's certainly not the huge problem you are making it out to be. It may occassionaly lag by a letter or two but not by several words.

I agree with Pheonix , plus this problem was fixed with the new firmware .

I actually meant my advice to be for Patrick who did not specify whether he was currently a bill customer or prepaid...

quoting the person you are directing your "advice" at would be a good idea then...

Thank you very much, I appreaciate the advice.

anyone tried or seen any successful stories performing a transplant of a T610 into an original T630 housing?

well it can be done, the americans have been doing it for ages, seen alot of converted fones on hofo, think the keyboard was the thing at the start causing grief but someone must have come up with a new one or that,

in relation to the unlocking question above you need a terminator dongle to get your SE Unlocked,

    cheers

I am thinking about getting the t630 on o2 speakeasy as a upgrade pack for €179. I was just wondering if any one could recommend any other phone around the same price and with the same features bluetooth, gprs, colour screen etc. The phone does not have to have a camera and I have no problem changing networks.

    Hey folks,

I'm also thinking of getting a T630 on from O2. But I currently own a Vodafone mobile, and have a few questions:

1.) Is it possible to keep my old 087 number as an 086 one with O2?

2.) ... Or, can I insert my Vodafone SIM Card into the new phone, and continue as normal?

3.) If I did switch to O2, is it worth it in the long run?

    4.) Does the T630 have a speaker-phone ability?

I thought the T610 was a lovely piece of kit after coming from a 6310i. Bluetooth was nicer and worked better with the Mac (Address Book - iCal - iSync etc.). The only downside was the camera, although I don't expect great results anyway the photos are sh!t compared to the Nokia camera phones I've seen and the Motorola V series of recent times.

I recently bought a T630, basically the same phone, slightly better looks, vastly better screen and the lag is all but gone.

If it's a Vodafone option replace the firmware straight away - the changes they make to the phone are enough to put anyone off it. Sh!t icons and themes are just the beginning - reprogramming of certain buttons is another annoyance.

My advice to anyone buying a phone nowadays is to opt for bluetooth. It will save you money in the long run what with java games and polyphonic tone charges being a rip-off - along with that bluetooth handsfree is a joy to use, my fave accessory is my Jabra BT200 ear piece.
