Tried it as in visited it or played on playchess.com ?

It is a great site for tips and info on using Fritz or chessbase, playchess.com has lots of germans.

If you are looking to play online chess try
chessclub.com (icc) or freechess.org (fics)

chessclub generally has more going on but the standard is quite high, freechess.org is less formal and you are less likely to get smashed into oblivion in less than 20 moves !
