i'm probably asking a question that many have asked before,
but i need a anti-ads type thingy, coz norton doesn't seem to block everything.

    freeware preferably...
    what are people's recommendations? ;)

Personally, I would recommend using Mozilla FireFox as your browser and installing the AdBlock Extension.

I think it's the best thing on the net at the moment, and it's completely free!

    is it a proper anti-ad plug-in,
and not just an anti-popup google bar type thingy?

It's a different browser to replace internet explorer.

If you want to remove the crap I find spybot to be one of the best.

Simply google "spybot download" for the link.

It's a proper anti-ad plugin. It basically works by Wildcards. So say ads keep displaying from http://ads.somesite.com/banners/somebanner.gif, you can just add ads.somesite.com/* and it blocks anything that comes from that address. It's really simple to add to it also, you just right-click on it, choose AdBlock Image, then click ok.

You can also get a text file that you can import and it will block the most common ad site URLs. You can look at details about it on the AdBlock Site.
