Powerbook speakers muting off and on constantly!

I've had this problem with my powerbook G4 for *months*! After it's been on for, say, half an hour, the speakers start 'popping', as if someone is pressing the mute button off and on constantly.

As you can imagine this is extremely annoying! It doesn't happen if I have earphones or speakers plugged in, so it's obviously a problem with the internal speakers.

I've done a PRAM and NVRAM reset, no change. Rebooting never fixes it, it always starts again after about half an hours uptime.

    Any suggestions?

A friend of mine had this, but only when he had Linux installed on it.. so I'm not sure how to fix it. :/ You could try removing the battery and leaving the machine completely dead for a good while.. I've found that fixes some things like the 'keyboard completely dead' thing my ibook gets once in a while.

    Teeth.

I'd imagine doing that performs the same job as resetting the PRAM/NVRAM, but sure I may as well give it a go :(

    Hi,

Did you have a look on apples discussion boards and see if any one else has had this problem and their solution?

I couldn't find anything. I find Apple are pretty Nazi'ish with that board, they'll take down anything that makes their products look bad.

Shock horror for once I can agree with you and Nazi'ish is a good term for it. :)

    :)

Problem *seems* to have gone away after I reinstalled OS X yesterday.
