A mate of mine is gay and looking for somewhere to rent in Dublin city with a few "like minded individuals". He's a non-boards user so asked me to help, 20yrs old, out etc.. He needs to be near enough the Luas line or a Dart station. Anyone?

Your best bet would be to try the Accomodation board, which has been expressly set up for people wanting to let/rent appartments.
