I have an avi file that I want to put on DVD so I bought a program called "All Video Converter" but I started to convert a 132 MB file yesterday at 3 p.m. I got up this morning and low and behold at 9:30 a.m. it has still only done 32% of it. I know my pc is slow (Pentium III 450mhz, 80GB HD, 196MB Ram) but has anyone any suggestions as to a quicker way...? If necessary I would buy that dvd player from Tesco that plays loads of different formats, if converting it into Divx or some other readable format was faster. Your comments are much appreciated!!

It sounds a little long for a 132Mb file but with your system maybe it's about right ?

Also, maybe you don't need to hear this but conversion software from avi -> mpeg (dvd) is often found for free on the net. So try downloading something else and giving it a try to see if it's faster/slower.

I have a PC with a TV-OUT which let's me watch stuff on the telly but to avoid leads all over the place I just got a divx/xvid DVD player (< 100euro). For things that you don't want to keep you can always burn them onto cd-rw and just delete it afterwards.

Try TMPGEnc (just google it to find it) to see if it's faster.

You do have a weak system....but that sounds a little extreme.

If its an avi file then it probably is already in xvid/divx format and would play in one of those xvid/divx players from Tesco

Ok greatthanx. Do I have to put the avi file on a dvd-r or will it work in a dvd player on a cd-r?

All divx players will also read CD's so you don't have to burn onto a drd-r, just a normal cd will work fine.
