Have you ever noticed that when something is discussed, even in passing, you will then notice that thing persistantly for the next while. Like the other day I was wondering why Boards.ie didn't have a TV board - then Devore said there was 6 (on Community boards).

I posted this (first below) on the Food / Drink board today and was then looking at some humour / useless facts on http://www.angelfire.com/hi/InMyZone/index6c.html and saw this (second below)

    Weird.
[the science bit] Fats are good at absorbing and retaining the chemical that 'make' flavours what they are. Therefore fatty foods are 'tasty'. The 'spice' in curries are oil soluble / based (even if carried in 'powders'). Fats dissolve in alcohols (beer / wine) and emulsions (milk - suspension of fat in water). This will wash the curry from your mouth.

Cold water makes fats solidify and coagulate. This makes them stick to your mouth / tongue / throat and burn you more after a few second.

You could use soapy water but it doesn't taste nice. [/the science bit]
Question: Why doesn't drinking water cool your mouth after eating spicy food?
Answer: The spices in most of the hot foods that we eat are oily, and, like your elementary school science teacher taught you, oil and water don't mix. In this case, the water just rolls over the oily spices.
So what can you do to calm your aching tongue? Try one of these three methods. Eat bread. The bread will absorb the oily spices. A second solution is to drink milk. Milk contains a substance called "casein" which will bind to the spices and carry them away. Finally, you could drink something alcoholic. Alcohol will dissolve the oily spices.

Too many freaks, not enough circuses.

I agree!! Its the same with words. Sometimes when I learn a new word it keeps turning up in things for the next few days. Is it because your brain only notices it after finding out its meaning? The brain is an amazingf thing.

Jesus - I thought I was the only one!

Like Lex said, I'd hear a new word and discover it's meaning and I tend to hear it more and more over the following few days. I think it's just that the mind picks up on it more now that it knows what it means or that it's seen it before.

It's always kinda freaked me out a bit, but I'm sure it's probably normal isn't it guys? Guys? Why are you running away? Why is there an ambulance screaming towards me?

    All the best!
