While Gigging is currently going quite well for us at the moment, my male need to compete and beat others is not fully being satisfied.

Does anyone know of any Battle of the Bands competitions, which my band can enter to vent my unsavoury aggression?

The only Battle of the bands thats worth anything in Ireland is "the battle of the axe" in Ha'penny Bridge Inn.

    www.battleoftheaxe.com

All you win is a rubber duck, but you'll have some fun. Attracts a huge crowd from everywhere. Met a Vet in Canada about a year ago who won doing a few jokes and he had his Cert and rubber duck on the wall in his waiting room.

Other that that "Your a Star" and "The Late Late Toy Show" are auditioning at the moment.

well, The Gaf youth café in galway are holding a battle of the bands in early october. i'm afraid there's no website or anything but if you live around the galway area then drop in & pick up a form (i hear there's similar battles going on in sligo & waterford but i don't know anything more about them). the main possible problem is that all band members have to be between 14 & 19. you get about 20mins playing time, originals/ covers are both acceptable. the heats are on oct 1 & 8 (i think) in the Black Box. my band are gonna enter (www.drivebyconfusion.com if you're interested... can't blame me for shamelessly self-plugging at every opportunity ;) ), it's good craic, entered last year with a different group. prize is a €1000 recording voucher type thing.

apart from that there's the global battle of the bands competition: www.gbob.com.

good luck in satisfying your machismo either way - just don't beat us :P

2fm and jacobs are having a song contest deal at the moment. its not really a battle of the bands, more so a battle of the songs. you send in a cd, and then they shortlist ten songs which have to be played live in front of a panel of judges and a crowd. winner gets 8000e worth of yamaha stuff. gotta be 20 or under to enter.

Regarding that Jacobs Song contest, yeh you've all gotta be under 20 but at least 1 member must still be in school, the song must be under 4mins in length and despite the organiser's claim that a professional recording isn't neccessary, around 5000 acts will be cut down to 10 based on the evaluation of entered CD's so serious studio time is required to be even in with a shout! Entries must be in by Friday 10th December

I’ve decided to go with the gbob.com option. I feel a bit dirty about it though as it is a big entry fee(feels like pay to play) and we only get 8 minutes of play time.

So on the issue of shameless plugs

The Dogs (www.thedogsband.com) play Eamon Dorans on Bank holiday Monday the 25th

Come on down to see just how macho we areJ
