Ok. Trying to choose a guitar amp is "wreckin' me head". I think it would be a good idea if their was a thread discussing the various brands- do they generally make decent amps or pieces of crap. What kind of music are certain amps suitable for ... blah blah blah....

So what do all you knowledgeable people think about:
    Behringer
    Engl
    Fender
    Hughes & Kettner
    Ibanez
    Laney
    Line6
    Marshall
    Mesa Boogie
    Peavey
    Roland
    Vox
....and the million other types of amp that there are.

So what do all you knowledgeable people think about:
Behringer Budget stuff, don't expect it too be stunning
Engl All valve, rock/metal sounds. Mesa pretenders. EXPENSIVE

FenderTheir entry level valve amps kick the pants off anything else for the price.

Hughes & KettnerIt's all about the hi gain...EXPENSIVE

    Ibanez Haven't a baldy.

    LaneyHaven't a baldy.

    Line6Good amps, consistent, reliable sound.

MarshallMost overrated/overpriced brand here. Avoid new stuff. Their old amps were great.

Mesa BoogieJoint top of this list IMO. Superb. EXPENSIVE.

PeaveyNever been huge on their guitar amps, but I've only heard combos. Their more expensive stuff is quite good apparently.

    RolandOld Roland amps are lovely.

VoxJoint top of the list with Mesa. For a more vintage tone than the Mesa, they're great. They do a newer range of digital amps, which are quite good, cause Korg now own the company, but the AC30 is still the jewel in the crown. EXPENSIVE.

You can pretty much scratch the best two options, Mesa and Vox, cause they're out of your price-range.

It entirely depends on what sound you're going for...

Im a massive marshall fan so I wouldnt be as harsh as Fitz. I think their quality is great, but I agree they are overpriced.
I however shopped around and bought 2nd hand. But then it was the sound I was looking for.Great overdrive sound imo.

Id go with Fender amps for clean sounds. Love the vox distortion also.

Behringer are good value for money, but if you pay €250 for a 150W amp then it gonna be good value, but **** sound. Distortion on behringers is horrible in the ones Ive played with.

Ive only heard good things about and from line6 amps, though only heard 1 in person that my buddy bought a few weeks ago. (He loves it. Real good metal sounding distortion. I think Slipknot use them?).
