I recently got a dvd disk burned of back up files by friend who just got a new dvdrw drive.

The disk is DVD+R and doesn't work in my drive, said its not formated or something (don't have the disk handy, thought it wasn't finalised and gave it back but it is finalised and works in the DVDRW drive)

The dvd drive is pretty old, would a DVD-R disk work or do you think its just the DVD drive thats pretty old and crappy.

The dvd drive has been able to play all dvd movies and a few dvd demo disks in the past.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Gid.

Probably its just too old, and doesn't recognise the "DVD+R" bitype. Try a DVD-R, or even better, get your friend to use "bitsetting" if he can, to set the bittype of his DVD+R to that of a "DVD-Rom" that will give the disc 99%-100% compatibility.

Read the forums at cdfreaks for more info on bitsetting
