Canon A80 or A85?

The only difference I see is that the A85 can take bigger videos (higher resolution) and has no LCD swival, although the LCD is a slight bit bigger at 1.8" rather than 1.5".

Anyone have either of these or has at least tried one? I've seen the A80 in action and it's pretty good, and so are the reviews for it. I can't find that much on the web about the A85 or any comparisions between them both.

    Try looking here

So far the only differences I can see are:

    The A85 has a 35 mm - 105 mm (3x) zoom lens. The A80 has a 30mm lens.

This just means that you can take photos of large, wide objects better with the A85 without having to move back to get it all into frame.

Larger sensor size for the A85

    Larger LCD on A58

A85 is lighter and smaller but no swivel LCD

I know it looks confusing but the A80 came out and then they brought the A85 out afterwards. But the A85 replaces the old A75 model but doesn't make it more powerful than the A80. :)

aye, gud site. that's where i came across the camera in the 1st place. it seems like the better camera still though - no? the A85 is even cheaper than the A80 which kinda makes me suspicious.

From what I read on a few review sites, the A85 is older technology than the A80 and hence produces a little more noise.

The A80, with the swivel LCD, is the most up-to-date model out of the two it seems.

The flip out screen is useful for awkward shots or wanting to take shots from unusual perspective. Its also useful for filming your 3 minute video clip.
The A85 having 35mm is a useful thing, you're going to use that end of the lens rather than the zoom capabilities most of the time..
The A85 is lighter, bigger screen, also takes higher res video, if you're going to save a bit of money buying that rather than the A80 i'd go with it. Either way both camera take good pictures.

after a bit more research i came across the Sony DSC-W1 which is smaller, uses only 2 batteries but has less features. all the same, it seem's pretty gud. it's not as bulky as the A95 and doesnt zap 4 batteries, and it comes with a recharger. i cant see myself going into too much detail with pictures as i like to just go around and point and shoot, so as it stands I think i might be getting this one.

has anyone had any experience with this camera or Sony cameras in general?

Firstly the 4 battery Canon feels pretty nice to handle. The 4 batteries seem to balance it out.

But yeah, the Sony looks pretty good for the price. More pixals, bigger LCD...

Either way, I don't think you'll go wrong with eitehr of them.
