Yes sorry, it's another "What should I get?" thread.

I've decided it'll probably be a Gibson, since I can pick one up off Chris's site for a more than reasonable price. I'm kind of torn between an SG and a Les Paul though. The Les Paul has a beautiful warm round tone, whereas the SG has a sharper, clearer tone. They sound more or less identical distorted, which would be the primary sound, and both sound fantastic. The Les Paul is very heavy though, whereas the SG is lighter, leading to their difference in sounds. The SG is also faster to play, and both are very comfortable and easy to play.

That's my dilemma. Both are fantastic guitars. SG's are cheaper of course, but since I'm not getting it for at least a few months that's not an issue. I will be buying second-hand. I'm kind of leaning towards the SG but thousands of guitarists can't be wrong about the Les Paul. Then again, a lot play SG's as well. It's so hard to choose! Any guidance would be much appreciated. The sound would be mostly punk or metal, not much light work though none too heavy either.

People here have seen me go through various stages of wanting a new guitar and settling on many different ones so hopefully I'll be able to keep my mind on these. After all, I do always seem to come back to Gibsons.

    Thanks in advance guys,
    Dave

I'd say LP purely because I don't like the way an SG hangs on a strap, it always feels just a little bit awkward to me.

I've only ever played both sitting down. Must try that. Thank you.

Les Paul all the way for me, no question. I say this as one of Tony Iommi's greatest fans, go for the Les Paul, they are just the business.
