Thinking of going on one of the aer lingus seat sales to NYC around the 15th Dec for a few nights - would this be recommended? Is it too cold to really enjoy it at that time of year? Any comments appreciated - especially from those who have done it!

Manhattan is great in December, really good Christmas feel to the place, Christmas tree in Rockerfeller center is very good, also go an see the show in Radio City Music hall, can't remember the name of it right now.
As for the cold well yes it does get very cold, major wind chill gusting through the streets., but nothing that a good wooley hat and golves cannot fix. Get a good jacket also and wear plenty of layers.

Indeed. Unless it happens to be the coldest day in 100 years like it was the last time I was there. Boy that wasn't fun.

Ice-skating in Rockefeller Plaza, what more could anyone want..

In any event you could a load of Christmas Pressies that might be unusual here and for a whole lot less than here ;)

The show at the Radio city music hall is called 'The Christmas Spectacular'.

How did you manage to drag up an 8 year old thread?

Be careful what you wish for! In December you should be hoping for mild weather, snow in NYC in December/January tends to get measured in feet, not inches. You do not want to be paying top dollar for a Manhattan hotel and then discover that you can't go out shopping or sightseeing because there's a blizzard blowing outside.

we've been 3 times around this time of year. once for thanksgiving, once same time you are thinking of going and another time middle of january. it was freezing cold each time, but it's a different kind of cold than what you get here. crisp and sharp...plus no rain each time. i would absolutely recommend this time of year, great festive atmosphere, just wonderful. we bought leggings to wear under our jeans and with hats and scraves you'll be grand. the only thing is when you go into the shops, macys etc...you will be baked...the heating in the shops means you'll end up taking off your coats etc to shop in comfort

    NYC...my favourite place ever...enjoy :)

the only time we had snow was the time we went in january, i think that was 2005

this is where we stayed twice, can't remember the first hotel we stayed in (an absolute dump it was, so no point mentioning it)

also, have a look for an apartment instead of a hotel...check out airbnb, perfect places or housetrip....might work out cheaper than a hotel!?

ah sure you are in the heart of it all...next to macys and empire state building :) there is a wonderful diner on the corner of 34th and 6th or maybe 7th (can't remember which corner...wonderful breakfast pancakes !

sure as long as the place is clean, especially clean bed sheets you'll be grand so!

    enjoy
