Easy Question on Graphics cards

    Greetings,

I have a quick one - How do I find out if my graphics card has a 3D Excelerator in it?

Bought a nice new Dell with (possibly an OEM version of) a Nvidia GeForce FX5200 and salivating in the direction of Doom3. Given that it bought the entry level graphics card, should I be kicking myself? :o

type dxdiag into the run box and go to display tab.
The 5200 is a okish card it will run doom maybe on low to medium quality.
Can check Nvidias website for detailed specs.

Techically the first the first 3D accelerator was the 3Dfx Voodoo which was before my time, although I have seen one in action (in the machine of a poor student couldn't afford the upgrade to the newer Voodoo2 (with SLI!!!) and had to plod along with a whopping 4Mb of vram) revolutionary in it's day...

I have a Geforce4 Ti4200. I think this is the same, if not worse than the FX5200? It's older anyway, and I have no real problems playing Doom3 at acceptable GFX settings, even with a 2GHz CPU.

A fx5200 is a reasonable enough card for 99% of Dells customers. Its mainly only good for general windows work ie Office, Internet and watching DVD's. But for anyone trying to get decent frame rates in the likes of Far Cry and Doom3 you'd be disappointed.

On a positive note at least you have a dell with an AGP slot. Have a look at a Radeon 9800pro their cheap now and would give a massive boost in your gaming performance.

airetam_storm your 5600xt wouldn't be much better by the way.

The 5600xt is even worse then the 5600 which is also crap. As for the 5600xt over clocked to 5900xt in your signature. Its just not possible as they have different cores. It would be like saying 5950 o/c to 6800ultra. Might have the same core and memory frequencies but the 6800ultra would be still nearly twice as fast.

PS pls give up da txt talk its annoying .
